2000 LS V8 Timing tension bad? VIDEO! Please view.

Your problem is with the timing. It sounds like the tensioner is failing or has already failed and possibly jumped a tooth. When this happens it will give you a misfire in a couple of cylinders and a fuel trim problem, which you have. The reason the problem goes away when you first start the car...

Timing Chain? Yep it's the timing chain

Had this happen to my LS @ 80k miles on the driver side. The top of the tensioner broke and and the exhaust cam skipped a tooth. It is VERY possible to change just the tensioner... which is what I did. You can do it the quick way and take the exhaust cam and gear out to give you room to put in...

    Engine Temp. Experiment (heat extraction)

Removing the engine cover should have no effect to the underhood temps. I would like to see temp results from removing the weather stripping along the underside of the hood that seals with the cowl. This should have a similar effect to removing the cowl cover as you did.

Update on my Rough idle that goes away when I drive off

If you pull off the valve cover and see that the timing marks on the cam don't line up, then you are off a tooth. In my case the tensioner failed. You can correct the timing issue without taking apart everything if you just take out the exhaust cam. That can allow you to adjust the chain as...

Update on my Rough idle that goes away when I drive off

I had the timing chain skip a tooth. The car was giving me on and off check engine lights with codes for both rich and lean on the same side and cylinder misfires. The only way to tell is to pull the valve covers and check the cams, which is easy after the cover is off. If i recall, on the Gen...

SCT XCal3 Might Not Work With Your LS

So I just wanted to put something out there for a lot of you that might be considering going with an X3 tuner from SCT. I looked at everything on their site about it and by all accounts, they show that the X3 would work with my 2001 LS V8... but it doesn't. The X3 has preloaded tunes that are...

    Speedometer error

Your speedo should read 2.2% to fast with those tires, so depending on speed it can easily make it a few mph off. A programmer should be able to solve this issue.

3 wheels tell me whatcha think!

I have the first ones in 18". They look great on the LS. No, I don't have pics.

    blinker no more....

I had a similar problem with my passenger side. When I bought the car the side marker and blinker didn't work because the previous owner hit something in a parking lot. It wasn't the bulb and it wasn't the fuse. After a lot of searching I found that the wire behind the bumper go sliced into two...

engine is smoking badly in '02 V8

Well, it is your car, your time, your money, and your headache to do what you want with. I just know if I was in that situation, I would try the 20 minute and $20 solution and put some 10w-30 in there before spending the time to order parts and pay someone easily over a thousand to fix it or...

engine is smoking badly in '02 V8

It is not uncommon to have to switch to a heavier weight oil to solve issues like this with higher mileage engines. 5w-20 is very thin, not to mention you are running the synthetic. As mileage increases, wear on parts increases and gaps open. Some 5w-30 or 10w-30 could easily solve the smoking...

    Strange starting problem...

I've had a similar problem with my '01 V8. At random, when trying to start it, the motor will the turn over and over and nothing. However, if i turn the key back, take it out, and put the key in again and try to start it it will usually fire right up. It seems to do this more when it gets cooler...

    Tire wear, cupping?

Cupping is usually caused by suspension components, not the tires. The cupping effect can be more apparent on the tires if they haven't been properly rotated though. Chances are the cupping is being caused by the struts being in need of replacement/getting worn out. Atleast that is usually what...

Wouldn't this have more to do with the brand and model of tires you buy, and not the vendor you buy them from?

    180 or 160 Thermostat for 04 LS

Coolant will start to boil around 275+, not 220... Most cars have an average coolant temp of 220 or so and it would be about midway on the gauge. Closed loop issues usually only come about from running no thermostat.

    180 or 160 Thermostat for 04 LS

You could try using water wetter in the coolant system as well. It won't lower the overall temp of the engine, but it will help reduce hot spots in the cylinder heads under WOT.

    engine code po174

you probably have a vacuum leak. I think it is common for some hoses to develop leaks around the pcv system on the v6. I have the v8, so I wouldn't know for sure.
