    Charging System Question

Just FYI - I know you are going with a different, high amperage fan. With my gen 1, I put in a gen 2 electric fan from a 2003 model. At first, I used a thermostat to control the fan, and it was all-or-nothing, and in low speed traffic it would start driving the car’s voltage down. I have...

    Charging System Question

I used the water resistant baffles in both the front and the rear doors. If there is a loss in bass, I haven’t noticed. On the tweeter location, I flush mounted the Morel tweeters in the upper dash trim panel, just below the windshield. The tweeters sounded wonderful in that location, but I...

    Charging System Question

I had a lower cost version of those Morel separates for a while. Even the lower cost version had great detail. I'm sure those are even better still. That's been my only experience with the Morel brand. I went back to Infinity because I got some water damage in the driver's door, and I was...

Coolant System Rebuild - Replace all plastic parts

So, all the plastic parts are replaced. Oddball's PWM unit seems to be running the fan well. I drove the car on 4 different local trips, total of 70 miles. Its running solid. I plan to drive it all week on my 40-mile work commute. Its great to have her back on the roster! (knock on wood...)

    Charging System Question

Bob - On the audio system, I am in the same boat as you. I love a great sounding audio system with alot of amplifier power. You are correct that the Gen 1 alternator can barely keep up with demand on a high output fan like this running. I have had good success with my audio system going in...

Coolant System Rebuild - Replace all plastic parts

I have also been using the electric fan from a Gen 2 Lincoln. Today, I wired in Oddball's PWM adaptor to better control the fan. Here is the unit wired in, but not mounted yet.

Coolant System Rebuild - Replace all plastic parts

Whew! I finally have all of the plastic parts replaced. I did take Joe's suggestion to install the new radiator by brining it in from the bottom. It helped a little bit. Taking a lunch break now. Will begin the process of putting in coolant, then do the coolant air bleed procedure. Then...

Coolant System Rebuild - Replace all plastic parts

I didn't consider that possibility. I have the front elevated about 2ft. Do you put new ones in that way?

Coolant System Rebuild - Replace all plastic parts

It took alot of work, and much of it was above my pay grade... but I have all of the plastic coolant system components removed, and also the old radiator removed. Removing the old radiator took an amazing amount of time, effort and profanity.

Coolant System Rebuild - Replace all plastic parts

Yea, I meant the amount of gunk packed in the heat exchange fins, reducing the air flow.

Coolant System Rebuild - Replace all plastic parts

Here is my old radiator. I'm assuming that this is the original. Its got massive gunk built up in it. I tried to spray a water hose through it a few times over the years, and it looks like that didn't help much.

Also, yes, I have the hose clamps, and a couple of additional hose sizes to cut short pieces.

Coolant System Rebuild - Replace all plastic parts

I had to replace the serpentine belt and the aux water pump a few months ago. At that time, I went ahead and changed out the water pump while I was there. All the parts purchased appear to have come with their own O-rings, ready for install, with the exception of the OEM Motorcraft thermostat...

Coolant System Rebuild - Replace all plastic parts

Just beginning a coolant system rebuild on my 2000 LS V8 (sport version). I have already replaced the degas bottle. I had to buy a Jaguar coolant pipe that goes in front of the thermostat. The thermostat assembly is a Motorcraft. The other parts are after-market from AC Delco and Dayco. I'm...

    Coolant Outlet Tube Replacement

I have a 2000 model Gen 1 with the V8. If we have an LS engineer on this forum, I only insulted him or her if they wrote the coolant section of the 2000 LS Shop manual. I do admit to insulting LS engineers in other instances, such as when I tried to connect the new degas bottle tube. I made...

    Coolant Outlet Tube Replacement

I am in-process on finding and ordering all the plastic parts in the cooling system. The photos below are what the LS Shop Manual calls the Coolant Outlet Tube. The shop manual gives a partial part number of 8A520. The shop manual gives partial part numbers because it was written by a bunch...

    Gen 2 alternator on a Gen 1?

Quick question - all of the alternators I can find that fit the 2000 model LS are 110A max output. The Gen 2 models have a 150A alternator. Does anyone know if a Gen 2 alternator will fit on a Gen 1 model? The reason I am interested in this is because I put a Gen 2 electric fan on the car...
