What did you do to your Continental today?

My 01 went to the scrap yard last weekend, unfortunately. It just wasn't worth fixing the large number of issues. I sold a few parts off her and pulled the 275a high output alternator which will work in my 04 Mercury Grand Marquis, so Mary lives on in many other cars.

What did you do to your Continental today?

I finished the process of removing the power steering pump from my 01. This car has a bit of a story... my grandpa was the second owner, driving it from 23k to (I think) ~160k. I bought it from him in mid-2013 and drove it until January of 2015 when I got a newer, more fuel efficient, and...

    2001 Continental - sloppy/unresponsive steering

I very well may just be imagining things, too. I'm trying to sell the car.

    2001 Continental - sloppy/unresponsive steering

I just did an oil change, and while I had it up on jacks I pushed, pulled, and wiggled the wheel in every dimension with no slop/give/wobble in any direction. Maybe it's just the extreme cold causing the rubber not to contact the road well.

    2001 Continental - sloppy/unresponsive steering

First off, I'm from Wisconsin, and it gets really cold. I question why people willingly live here, with windchills recently down around -35. Anyway, my 01 Continental has recently started having some really weird steering issues. It is fairly unresponsive, meaning it feels like I have to turn...

    2001 Continental Alternator Replacement

Stock alternator was 130a, I installed a 275a Singer alternator.

    2001 Continental Alternator Replacement

My voltage drops below 13.9V regularly and the only time the battery light has come on was when the alternator actually died. It doesn't go off voltage. Due to the sound system I can get it to drop below 12V quite easily and the battery light does not come on.

    New tires!

I have Continental Tiger Paws (I think?) and living in WI these tires see a LOT of snow. Car handles like a dream, surprisingly so in fact.

    Headliner removal

I figured out how to remove it, simply have to pull down the A, B, and C pillar trim panels, remove front sun blockers/vanity mirrors, passenger and back seat "oh ****" handles and the whole thing will drop right down. Mine had two electrical plugs, one for the dome lights and universal garage...

High Output Alternator ever resolved? Amp current Help?

Look into Maxwell ultracapacitors, they are expensive but are very, very powerful. I've seen a single bank of 6 3000F 2.7V ultracapacitors sustain a 4000W RMS system on stock electrical no problem.

    Headliner removal

Lol yeah it's pretty intense, that's for sure. Right now it's about the same volume as a buddies system and he hit 142db on a termlab. I haven't completely set everything up yet, will be louder once it's all finished up :) I really do hope the headliner is that easy to take down. A quick...

Hey guys, I am in need of removing my headliner to add sound deadener to my roof. I finally got my sound system in and my roof and sunroof flex like no tomorrow. Any tips or hints are appreciated. Thanks everyone!

    4.6 Plug Blow Out

Replaced all coils and plugs in my 01 last summer and tightened until it was comfortable. Like MooJohn, I also didn't use any anti-seize nor power tools/sudden force to remove the old ones. 15k miles later I haven't had any problems.

    2001 Lincoln Continental, R.I.P.

My 01 is running well with 181k on the clock, other than transmission issues (which haven't changed in the last 20k miles so I'm not worried) and now a slight noise when I turn left, not 100% sure what the issue is there. Engine is very strong in these cars, but the tranny is its downfall...

Singer, not stinger. Mike Singer makes them by hand out of Ohio. EDIT http://singeralternators.com/

    alternator issues

To my knowledge my alternator uses an OEM casing and voltage regulator, just beefed up everything else, essentially.

    alternator issues

I understand that - different platforms, different eras, different electrical systems. As an audio enthusiast/basshead the electrical system of my car is absolutely vital. My alternator cost a nice $500 and is one of the most reputable high output alternator brands on the market today. Cheaping...

    alternator issues

I was told my continental wouldn't like an aftermarket alternator either but my 275a Singer alternator works just fine.
