05 LS V6 Charging Problem [Solved]

Hi all, Thought I would share my experience with chasing down an electrical charging gremlin on my father-in-law's 05' LS V6, just in case anyone else is going down this path and is scratching their heads too. Quick background: The LS started flashing the battery light for a few seconds here...

Magnaflow Cats Problem - Need Help

I had the same issue when I installed the Magnaflows on my 2004. I ditched the bolt studs that mount on the manifold and used new exhaust bolts directly into the manifold, this pulled the flange close enough to have a tight seal and it's been a year with no problems. It took me about 2 hours on...

Magnaflow Catalytic Converters - Gen II V8

Man, so sorry about the months long delay in my reply, I've been taking on more and more roles at work and since my LS hasn't had any issues lately I haven't dropped in here for a while (it still doesn't have any issues, was just curious about what's happening now :)). Anyways, to answer your...

    Pie adapters

I have an 04' with THX/Nav, went through this a few months ago. I am now using a FRD03-AUX/S adapter and I have to use the "Media" button on the steering wheel to get to "Sat1", it works about 90% of the time, but I usually have one point during my commute where it goes back to FM2 and I have to...

    (Off Topic) Turbochargers

You do realize that the 2014 Mustang is supposed to be getting a TT v6, I4 Turbo and an NA V8 right? It's also supposed to have rear independent suspension as well. As far as a turbo'd V8, it is rumored that the next-gen GT500 will have a TT 5.0, there was an article I read somewhere that said...

So I just installed the K&N intake

You can find a pretty large assortment of the black push-tab type things your talking about at Advance Auto Parts or Autozone, they are usually in the "Help!" section, I bought a pack of like 10 to replace the ones that were missing on my front upper radiator cover thingy.

    Engine rattles on startup

I wouldn't say that, it's pretty common in most cars, especially with higher miles (mine has 170K, and it has piston slap only on the coldest mornings, and only for a few seconds). You may want to go to a little thicker viscosity oil or look into getting a block heater. I don't have to worry...

    Gen II Throttle Body Question

Get an old toothbrush and a can of throttle body cleaner and pull off your intake and clean it really good. When I first got my car it felt like the throttle was sticking sometimes, once I cleaned the gunk that had built up around the throttle valve (the big circle that rotates) it stopped...

    Engine rattles on startup

Even after I replaced my tensioner, I still get about a 1/4 inch of movement when I start it up in the cold (I haven't checked since it's been warm out yet), so to me this is probably normal. That combined with the fact that you removed the belt entirely and you still have the sound makes me...

    Driveshaft - Is this normal?

I'm not the engineer who designed this, but I'll give it my best explanation: Answer to 1 - The rubber flexes a bit under load, and also expands/contracts with temperature change, I wouldn't be surprised if it is designed this way for one of those reasons. To answer 2 and 3, I will climb...

    Engine rattles on startup

Well the bad news is that it isn't your tensioner, the good news is that you just eliminated quite a few possibilities, essentially everything connected to your accessory drive belt. So whats left? Timing chain slop due to low initial oil pressure not extending the timing chain tensioners...

    Engine rattles on startup

Before I changed career tracks and went into IT full-time, I was a mechanic first at Toyota and then at Ford. I've actually seen this happen a few times, especially when cold. I'm not 100% convinced it's the spring failing as it might be the bearing for the pulley locking up when it's freezing...

    Tire time.

Just put on Michelin Pilot Sport+ A/S within the past 2 months, best tires I've ever had in the rain or dry pavement hands down. A little pricey (about 850$ installed) but worth every penny.
