96-97 TC vs. 98-99 TC. Which do you prefer?

98+ preferably I think they started adding side airbags in 99' since my 98' doesn't have them. The 95-97 have very thin steel in the body panels. I'm not sure about other models, but my Cartier came with dual piston calipers and 12.8" front brakes and true dual exhaust. I also used to have a 97'...

    Is that water I hear?

Mine had water trapped in the door, the drain holes were plugged. I removed the plastic covers and it all the water came running out. FYI it was passenger door.

fuel pump over heating? 99 towncar

Somewhat recently I was having problems with car not starting and the security system wasn't getting the proper voltage because a loose battery terminal (broken). It was also causing my fasten seat belt light to stay illuminated.

    Lincoln Town Car

Maybe they don't understand how forums work? I can picture it now (considering they are talking about a town car)

Anyone know what type of leather the Town Car uses?

I dunno, my Cartier has about 224k and the seats still look pretty good no tears just looks like normal wear. On my Mark 8 the seats cracked much easier on the sides and looked more worn out with half as many miles.

    Opinions

Looks like my car, I only done some minor mods to my town car. I have a 1998 cartier (so it already has dual exhaust). I have March underdrive pulleys, AFE intake, 3.73 gears, and fairly recently an aluminum driveshaft. I plan on swapping in a dohc 4.6 from a mark 8 when I have the garage space.

Anyone know what type of leather the Town Car uses?

Honestly I thought they used leather for the seat and the sides were made of vinyl to save costs.

    Aluminum driveshaft swap

Yeah, I know it's quite the weight savings in those terms but I only expected to free up a couple ponies. Too early to tell as far as gas mileage, the biggest felt benefit is less vibration and no more whine/hum from around 35-40mph, I should mention I also have 3.73 gears.

    Aluminum driveshaft swap

You know it has reduced rear end hum or growl from around 40mph. I remember reading somewhere they went with this design to combat low speed harmonics instead of high speed. Honestly I don't think this car will ever see 100mph the fastest I recall going is probably 85mph for fun at a track. A...

    Aluminum driveshaft swap

Because of the obvious gap on the rear of the shaft, may be hard to tell in the pics even though it came off a 1993 according to the yard. Also not really weight savings in a whole, but less rotational mass slightly less drivetrain loss.

    Aluminum driveshaft swap

The yolk and the rear coupler (I think that's what it's called), the town car's yolk is longer and has a bigger coupler. I don't expect major difference but I felt it was worth the upgrade for $100 w/ new u joints. Yeah I did a little research prior which was good because I was going to use...

    Aluminum driveshaft swap

This was removed from a 93' but it doesn't look like 1 piece to me because of that gap or am I wrong? It looks the same from what I recall I had on my 97' mark 8

    Aluminum driveshaft swap

Swapped out the steel driveshaft for an aluminum one from a mark 8. I used a driveshaft from a 93' mark 8 but looks like the same 2 piece shaft to me. It was a fairly easy swap, just got to swap ends off from the old steel shaft which was no big deal because I was going to replace the u joints...

shimmy in steering on highway in 04 TC

The pitman arm seems to be common problem, not saying that it's yours but all these parts in the front are fairly cheap to replace. Once you're under (use jack stands and turn off air-ride) have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth see where there is play or if anything is clunking...

Look at www.kellybluebook.com and go down from there. (KBB is usually high)

shimmy in steering on highway in 04 TC

I had this issue before. I replaced all my ti-rods with new greasable ones, both upper balljoints, my pitman arm and the idler. After that got a GOOD alignment at dealer (Hyundai dealer charges less than I paid another place which could not get it right).

Cartier vs Sig/Exec Grilles -- moldings interchangeable? (1999)

I can confirm it's the same, but you'll have to reuse your emblem since it comes unbadged and you cannot get new emblems from ford. I paid $15.43 for the upper hood trim and $35.79 for the grill. I would suggest getting new nuts because the old ones were pretty rustastic.

Cartier vs Sig/Exec Grilles -- moldings interchangeable? (1999)

Pretty sure it's the same, and I would look on rockauto.com as I believe they are the cheapest especially with discount code (use google you'll find one). I think the only difference is the badging.

    98 Town Car Cartier

I think I'll just wait until this motor goes south and swap in a pi engine later on down the road. Since this posting I picked up a afe intake which probably helped gain an additional 5hp.
