yup. came home today and saw the wife with the water hose dousing the engine. got out of the
car, and was like.. wtf are you doing splashing cold water on a hot engine. she just said it
overheated and was trying to cool it off. anyway... got it in the garage and starting taking the bits
off to check around the water pump. looks like the tstat housing has been leaking, and i think the
stat went bad. she said it overheated, but wasn't making the boiling over sound, and no fluid was
blowing out anywhere. so.. going to do the bottle, tstat and housing, the little crossover hose, and
the rest of what i can get to, along with all new tensioners / pulleys and belt. 1st time to dive into
ye ole ls this far, but it should be fairly straight forward. have to order the water pump with the
steel impeller from the bay. the xover pipe is already fairly new, so that piece will stay.

this is as far as i got tonight. had to put front brakes on the gto, so that took me an hour. i'll add
pics as i get to the parts through the rest of the week.

Isn't it just a 1.5" radiator hose? Measure the diameter first to verify the diameter. Then, go to the nearest parts store and buy a foot of straight hose? Measure the length, put a worm clamp on your mark and use a sharp exacto knife to cut along the worm clamp for a nice, straight cut? Remove the worm clamp, slip the oem clamps to the middle of the hose and finish the install? Just a thought.

Good luck.

eh, you can get that short hose for $8 or so. it's worth it to me to have the factory correct part on there :)

Elephant,

grab the ÜRO PARTS Part # NCE2247ADKIT = Jaguar Aluminum Thermostat housing
instead of the OEM stock version. Use OEM Ford Thermostat with the JAG housing.

... and I really would replace that outlet pipe. I know you think it looks good BUT ...

EDIT - - - -

Qty 1 fresh backhand for splashing cold water on a hot engine

yup, i already bought the jag tstat tower, based on another post you had, and
thanks for that. i may go ahead and replace the crossover pipe as well... what's
with this aux coolant flow pump.. am i just missing it under the hood ? i'd for
sure replace that as well...

..and i gave her shyte all evening for doing that lol

Let's say someone was doing the whole thing,
had "not enough" or "no heat" during idle.

They'd want to swap out the 12volt Bosch coolant flow pump,
which aids in continuing on coolant to the interior core during idle and provides additional assistance of cool down coolant flow at engine shut down.

If NO heat at idle BUT heat at highway speeds = Re&Re - OEM Auxiliary Coolant Flow Pump - GEN 1 V8

Only heat out of passenger side vent or non at all ... the DCCV often gets replaced as well.

When the Upper hose is off, there is easier access to both these units.

1st GEN has the Flow pump on the top side and the DCCV on the bottom side. They age at the same rate the other plastics do.

GLWR :p

ah okay. i have none of those issues. the heater in my ls will throw fireballs at you. and snowballs in the summer,
so may leave that be for now. thanks for the detail, as always.

getting it torn slowly apart.. is the defart bottle missing a return hose ? this nipple had
nothing on it. would assume it would have. AND have a few stripped bolts in the tstat
cover. should be fun to get off.

3) Disconnect the engine vent hose, and separate the air bleed hose from the degas bottle.

...

No, your good, it just acts as a hanger for the air bleed hose, I think if you look inside said nipple you'll notice it does not go through to the inside of the bottle itself.
The air bleed hose has a rubber hanger that slides over that look-a-like nipple.

Note: If you are going in to change the degas bottle out,
be wise and apply penetrating fluid to 7 of those cross vehicle support bolts, let it soak in for a while.

They like to snap clean off. Spray in a direction so gravity drains it down into the threads.

ah okay got it.. yeah that one test lead was hanging off of it in good order, so
good deal. making a little progress tonight. those bolts on the tstat tower are
two bit hoars :)

already removed the cross brace. it wasn't bad at all.

Is it just the pic or are your hoses a bit swollen, look like we'll fed worms.

eh, they're just well fed worms !

all of that is getting replaced. ...and did i say that those back two bolts on the
tstat tower can go straight to hell !

chris @ foreign parts is a shipping machine. ordered the steel impeller'd upgrade water pump on
tuesday, and it delivered today. got it installed. getting the tstat / defart bottle / tensioners and
pullies and belt tomorrow. water hoses on saturday, and buttoned up with a vacuum coolant fill on sunday.

is the coolant temp sensor under the cop cover on the driver side ?

No.
CHT is under the intake manifold. This is where the temperature gauge gets its info. It is a one-time use. If you remove it, you have to replace it with a new one. You can't put the old one back in.
There is an oil temperature sensor on the oil filter adapter. Since there is an oil-to-water cooler on the V8 sports, this also reads pretty close to coolant temperature.
I think the Jaguars actually have a coolant temp sensor screwed into the coolant crossover tube assembly.

ah okay. so i wont change that then, unless my original diag of stuck closed tstat doesn't solve the issue,
and it was a bad sensor. i'll hope not because i don't want to have to pull the manifold.

thanks joe for the knowledge.

Coming along nicely, fresh pulleys and belt at this stage is a good idea for sure. If the run along wheel is slightly smaller then the one that came off, no worries, still works, tentioner takes up the slack just double check it doesn't get to close to banging it's stopper.

well, i went to pick up the idlers, and oreilly's and they do not carry those at all.
can't even order them. so back on the hunt.

Rockauto or Tasca or local Ford dealership

well, i guess come to find out the original design pullies are not offered any longer,
and now there is a generic pulley that works. only thing is you have to take the
big cup washer off, that's between the bolt head and bearing. so, pullies, tstat,
tensioner, etc.. are all in hand, so out to the garage to finish up.

got this wrapped up last night. no muss no fuss. pulled a vacuum on the coolant system
through the defart bottle, and held plenty o' pressure. let the vacuum fill the coolant
system up, and no leaks. a win for the good guys.
