    Fan actuator question.

Hi Tireman, thanks for the tip, I'll try that in the future! I know that there are some very knowledgeable people on this board, and I appreciate all their help and time. I installed my water pump a couple of days ago and performed the bleed procedure. Yesterday I drove 40 miles of highway...

    Fan actuator question.

1LoudLS, "now here is some food for thought,.......". Yes, I'm sure you're correct and if the budget allowed I would do so. However I am limited to repairing only what is absolutely necessary at this time. That is why I was leery of replacing the actuator solenoid before being sure it was...

    Fan actuator question.

Hi guys, here a quick update- the actuator solenoid came and I installed it. Now the fan works at all speeds depending on temp. I also replaced the upper hose assembly because the small fitting on the bottom crumbled into dust when I tried to remove the hose clamp. Now I am getting coolant...

    Fan actuator question.

1LoudLS- I'm using Dexron/Mercon fluid . It was a slightly brownish dark red. Certainly needed replacement. The new is a dark red, although it didn't change the fan operation. Regards, M.R.

    Fan actuator question.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. 1LoudLS: my searching was done using the search function of the forum site. The post you mention and others are very similar to my situation, except that mine would engage high speed for about a minute before slowing down. I guess that doesn't really...

    Fan actuator question.

1LoudLS, thank you again for taking the time to reply. I have read through many pages of posts on this subject including the ones you linked to. I have found nothing directly addressing this behaiviour. I have read all the posts regarding changing fluid, adding Sea Foam, changing the...

    Fan actuator question.

1LoudLS- thanks for the reply. I have read all about replacing the degas bottle and "all the plastics" etc. My question is specific to the fan operation symptoms that I have, as noted in my original post. I.E. the fan operates, engages high speed for a minute, drops down to low speed and...

    Fan actuator question.

Hi guys, my 2000 ls 3.9 is overheating when not moving, with A/C on (there are no leaks, and the system stays pressurized). The hydraulic fan turns at slow speed with the A/C off, and goes to a higher speed when I turn the A/C on, but turns back to low speed after about a minute and stays at...

    Fuel pump retaining ring hack

Hello boys n' girls, today I had the un-enviable chore of removing the fuel pump from my '00 LS. The pump wasn't working even though it had juice and ground. I removed it from the tank and applied current as a bench test. On the first two trys it just sat there, but on the third and all...

    How to read dtc codes?

Hi everyone, I know this has been asked and answered many times previously, and I have used the search function but with no success. My 2000 LS 3.9 is experiencing a misfire and I suspect a coil/coils, but I would like to pull the codes to verify. I do not have a scan tool. What is the...

What did you do to your LS today?

Well, not TODAY, but in the last couple of weeks: new coils/ new plugs/ valve cover gaskets/ upper front control arms/ lower front control arm ball joints/ home made toe alignment (yes it works great!). Oh, yeah, and a driver's side window regulator, new A/C condenser and drier. Getting ready...

    Rear toe strut bushings

Hi Everyone; my 2000 LS has the dreaded re-end steering due to worn toe stru bushings. I have read many posts that recomend replacing the struts, but I would like to know if it is possible to replace just the bushings, and a source for them. Regards, M.R.

    Security re-set?

Ok! Found it- Fuse #22 was blown. Replaced with another 20a fuse and all works well. Don't know why it blew, or if it will repeat, but for now it runs. Thanks to everyone for their input and support. Regards, M.R.

    Security re-set?

Thanks BigRigLS, I will look at fuse #22 , as well as #25, and #5 (central jct box) and the wheel well wiring when I get off work tomorrow morning:(. I did NOT put the battery in another vehicle to test it, I used a multi-meter to check the battery charge, it was slightly over 14v. The...
