Much appreciated OldSchool. I think that I will cut and past it for future reference.

Forgot to mention that I did replace the voltage regulator and bought an alternator. The shop that I took it to load tested the alternator and said it was ok, so I told them to put in the voltage regulator anyway.

    Mad Max

I think that Chuck Norris had a blower with an on/off switch in a movie from long ago. I think that it was on a Blazer or a Rangler and he used it to escape being burried underground in his truck;) It could happen:rolleyes:

Just an update- After the shop disabled the alarm and replaced the headlight switch, I had far fewer electrical issues. I still had a lack of performance and some DTE errors which became mute after a friend borrowed the car for a football game and the next time I tried to drive it, I couldn't...

New Mark VII LED Tail light design.

Thanks Awesund, the variable load flasher that I mentioned does click. They even made another one that stated "loud" on the label, but I went for the original which is plenty loud for me.

New Mark VII LED Tail light design.

As I mentioned Black87, my flasher was going anyway so, maybe if I replaced it with the exact part it would have worked anyway. Mine is an 88, who knows if there was any change from the 87 in this area. All I can say is that it's working now, and I don't want to throw 7 more bucks on the...

New Mark VII LED Tail light design.

My LEDs didn't have complete info on the package, so I looked around on the other LED packages. My '88 apparently had a type 552 2-prong flasher. You want to replace it with a "variable load" 552 replacement. The one that I purchased is a Tridon Stant model EL12 12 Volt 2 terminal. I will try...

New Mark VII LED Tail light design.

Thanks Gents, I didn't want to return them. So, I guess I will pick up the LED flasher and put some electrical tape over the rear lamp out indicator and I should be all set. This flasher will still work if my front indicator lights are standard and just the rear stop/signal lamps are LED? Or...

New Mark VII LED Tail light design.

Did you have to make any mods? I bought these yesterday and installed them with the hazards blinking to make sure they were working. After putting all 4 of them in and getting back in the car, I had a rear tail light out warning indicator. Now when I put on the left or right turn signal, the...

NOW we might be getting somewhere. As I mentioned this pretty much started happening after my father-in-law swapped out the tranny- sounds like he was working near that rear ground and might have damaged it somehow. In addition, I noticed that the battery retaining plate is missing so the...

Thanks OldSchool, I did do research and read about the ignition switch and regulator/alternator combo. Someone also mentioned the solid state switch next to the ignition switch- might as well change that while I'm at it. The alarm was a factory install, don't know how old the battery is- better...

Forgot to mention, the ignition key was very warm to touch on several occasions after turning the car off.
