Hello all. I'm looking for a little help. I changed the trans filter and was filling the pan back up. I was only able to put about 3 1/2 quarts into the pan before it started leaking out of the drain (seems like not enough). I took it for a drive to warm up the trans, but when I come to a stop, the trans takes a couple seconds to start moving. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help

Tony

If you go to page 253, at the top it shows an automatic transmisson to be filled with 11.9 quarts. (Lincoln LS 2002) I'm assuming you have a gen 1.

Yes, but not nearly all of that drains out when you drop the pan.

amagalla, you need to raise the car up level (can't just be jacked up in the front or back), warm the transmission up and cycle it through forward and reverse, then add more fluid until it dribbles out of the center plug.

OK... I agree with you....but....I put the car up again, leveled it, pulled the center plug, and the rear filler plug, and as soon as I start adding in the rear hole, it started leaking from the center drain hole. What is going on here? Any help?

Thanks.

You are just taking out the center part of the coaxial plug, and not the whole thing?

You are adding/checking the fluid level with the engine running? If not, you won't get the correct level.

If you only did a pan drop before, it should only take two to four quarts to refill.
