Replaced the sway bar the other day and had to break the cooling sysem open. Once the project was complete, I bled the cooling system and took it for a spin. All is well. Next day, I drive for aprox 30 min and It starts running hot. I have to bleed the system more, Right?

Degas bottle is cracked. I replace the degas bottle and begin to fill and bleed the system as directed. But when I try and bleed the system, the coolant is freaking blasting out of that hose, covering the entire engine compartment and burning me up! Coolant is also rushing and filling up the degas bottle when this is happening.

The last time I bled the system, I did not have these problems. THe fluid pumped out of the hose and sputtered the air out and returned to a steady stream. But now its blasting so hard I can barley get the screw back in.

Please tell me whats goin on. THanks.

What's going on is that the coolant is boiling in the engine.
Do you have a V8 or V6?
What year?
Which instructions did you follow?

I have a 2000 V8. I followed the instructions for the v8 that Quik put up.

It should have worked then. You need to let it cool off completely, then try refilling at the engine fill and the degas. Make sure you are using coolant (half water and half anti-freeze) and not just water. Follow the bleed procedure to the letter. Don't let it overheat while bleeding.

Ok. I will try again. I have let it cool down and went back after it. It doesnt overheat at an idle or at least the temp gauge is reading at half on idle. It only appears to overheat when I drive, yet the coolant is rushing out of there. I was thinking my thermostat may be stuck. Is that probable??

I let everything cool down and started over. Im still haveing the same issue. I let the car run at idle till coolant comes out of the heater bleed steady, cap it off, and let it idle for 5 minutes. Temp gauge is reading normal. When I open the bleeder, it comes blasting out again and starts gurgling.

I think that if the thermostat was stuck, it would overheat at idle.

Step 11 of the procedure requires (but doesn't say to) removal of the degas cap. Are you doing that?

Ok, here is the update.

I bought and replaced the thermostat for $12. I was able to bleed the cooling system without it knocking me back 12 ft. Looking at the inner part of the thermostat, i can see where it was binding up.

Now when begin to rev the engine to 2 grand, the hydraulic fan starts whinning and will actually push fluid out the top of the reservoir. The fan is not engauging. I can spin it by hand clockwise (looking from the front), but not couter-clockwise (which is the way it should turn, right?). It does seem to catch on something but it got dark so I cant see now. I'll check it out again in the morning. Any suggestions?? Thanks for the help so far Joe.
