like the title said. I replaced my (02 V8) in 2009 with OEM and looks like it may be losing coolant again.

Replaced mine with an OEM one, summer 2010 @ about 100K.

I'm at 128k now, seems to be fine.

2000 LS...replaced with the Dorman tank at 130k-ish and the threads went bad at 140k. Replaced it with the Motorcraft tank and all is well at 164k.

2002 LSE...Replaced it when I bought the car at 157k because it was overheating on the previous owners. I used a Dorman bottle the first time and it lasted about 1k and the threads went bad again. Replaced with the Motorcraft and all is well at 163k.

Okay, I'll answer the question you didn't ask instead.

There's a good chance that your coolant loss is from somewhere other than the degas bottle. Check closely all the plastic cooling system parts at the front of the engine. This includes the hoses with plastic sections and the radiator. The DCCV, aux pump, and water pump should also be suspects.

All the hoses were replaced at the same time as the Degas Bottle. Thermo and Tower and DCCV, aux pump were also replaced around the same time (in 2009). I'll have to check radiator this wk

Just did mine about 300 miles ago at around 87k. Went with the dorman alternative so we'll see how long this thing lasts.

What's the most common problem with these things? Does it leak or something? And if that's the issue, is there some kind of sealant that can be put in it?

Cracks on the lower portion and leaks coolant typically very slowly at first but worsens over the time. The tricky thing is they can be hard to identify because the leaks are not constant. The heat causes the cracks to expand and allows coolant to seep out and then seal up when it cools. Due to this constant heating/cooling cycling you cant really repair these and just need to replace them. I've heard of folks coating the damaged area in JB Weld and having it last less than a week. Dont bother with the stop leak crap either.

Here was mine I just replaced @ 87k

I actually meant doing something to a new one. :)

Thanks for the info though!

I'm going to look into sealants, epoxy, and other stuff I may be able to dip it in to prevent the issue.

It's under pressure.

If you put something on the bottle it may make it worse. Just replace the bottle before ur happens and you will be ok for awhile. It also happens to the rest of the cooling system eventually. Just a common LS issue.
