So why is it we can't use the 4.6 DOHC coils on our cars? The polarity on the coils is already reversed like ours and we don't have to go through hell and a hand basket moving wires around.....

Is it simply because they can't be bolted down?

I actually have 4 of them on the passenger side bank. I plan to replace all 8 with new visteon's as others have recommended.

The coils do work, but they cannot be bolted down. I can't really say one way or the other. I put Iridium plugs on over the weekend, and the car is running pretty smooth. I wont really know how it affected the car until I put regular coils on, because I've only had the car 2 weeks.

You would have to mock up some type of bracket to bolt it down. There would be no reason really that you would need to move up to a 4.6 unless you were using MSD ignition. Then it would be worth it to move up to an Accel COP for a 4.6 that could handle the load.

I've had Accel coils on my car for quite some time without issue. You can somewhat get them to be bolted down but you can't use the plastic COP cover.

You guys know, you can just get the factory upgraded coils from Ford and shouldn't have to touch a coil for 50,000 to 80,000 miles...maybe even more.

Yes. I'm at 70K+ on one set (04 LS changed to new rev coils at 70K miles, now over 140K miles), and 90K or so on the other set (late 06 that came with the new rev coils).

New rev is: 2W4z-12029-B (DG-529)
Max has them for a little over $50

Just called Max earlier this week for coils. A skosche over $400 shipped for a set of 8. They list at around $70-$80. He told me that they are not vendors on this site anymore so I think any kind of discount he gives is a favor on his part.

Thanks for the part number Joe. I'm weighing the options between ordering them from the dealer and eBay/Amazon Visteon's.

Sweet... this is on my list.

That's the part I was trying to research on Rock Auto. I couldn't find any info on what the difference was. They have them for $44.79 each right now.

Thanks for the confirmation and the part numbers joe.

I am going to add those in official ls guide thread, i am sure they will come in handy.

Okay, first coil failure on the 06 at 92K miles. The #3 coil went from no noticeable problem to hard shaking, low power, and flashing check engine light in one day.
