My car recently started saying "check parking brake" and "service parking brake" then when i slow down to stop it comes on "set parking brake". I was wondering if anyone had this happen and what it is? Im figuring its a sensor or something but thought i would ask ;)

It takes a pretty good scanner to read the e-brake codes.
Did you disconnect the battery recently? (That's one thing that will cause this.)
Have you tried the recalibrate procedure that it is asking you to do?

yes actually, it sat for like 3 weeks in the cold and the battery died. i havent tried "recal" on it. im not even sure if the switch for it is even working properly. i will mess with it more prob tmrw. i also have a friend thats a mechanic that prob has a scanner that would run it. just thought i would ask you guys since alot of the same problems with these pieces of junk are common LOL.

No need to scan it. If the battery died, that's why it needs to be recalibrated. You just need to do as it asks and set the parking brake and release it as prompted.

Note that your transmission would love you more if you would use the parking brake every time you shift to park. There's really no excuse not to since it auto-releases.

why do you say that the transmission would benefit from setting the ebrake? i never set it when parking on flat surfaces. i also just got my transmission rebuilt, its nice.

Because when you dont set the e-brake it puts the weight of the vehicle on the transmission. especially on an incline.

Most flat surfaces are not truly flat.

You mean the recalibrate procedure? The message center will guide him through that.

joe, no i meant- to pull the parking brake and releasing it few times in a row. Once in a while, i will get the "service parking brake" message in the 04 V6 and i have gotten it to go away just by "working it" so to speak by activating the E-brake and releasing it.

Looks like the battery is the source of his problem.

i have engaged it but i didnt do what the car said to do for a "recal", i didnt realize i had to do that. i havent had this happen before and ive had the car for like 3yrs. never really thought about setting the ebrake all the time.

You have the V6, so you don't have the message center. With the message center (V8) there are specific steps to follow. They more or less amount to the same thing.

well i drove the car tonight and it wasnt prompting me to do anything anymore. my wife drive the car most of the time so ill get her to tell me if it does it again.
