Read a post on another form about someone measuring and installing all the 8.8 track lok internals into the LS 8 inch rear on the 00-02 carrier. He said he was goiong to try the same setup on the 03-06 carrier. Anyone no if it worked/works. Im at a point that a locked rear is absolutely a must have. Any help out there?

Short answer: no, no one has swapped out the carrier in a gen 2. The mount is completely different. On the gen 1, there are 2 bearing caps that are removed to pull the carrier out. The gen 2 has the bearing cap on one side, but kind of slides into the other side.

I'm hung over as sh*t right now, so explaining the difference is rather hard. Let me find a couple photos.

This shows the gen 1. 2 bearing caps (top and bottom, held in with 2 bolts each):

And the gen 1 carrier (note the bearings on each side:

I'll check around for the gen 2 carrier pics.

Miss typed my point. I need a posi rear, not a locked spool. The 3.52 gearing works out perfect, my problem is traction. Even with 275 rear tires on 9.5 rims, i have to peddle the :q:q:q:q out of it till I reach 20-25 MPH.

no. i don't know of anyone who has put an LSD in a gen 2 carrier.

everyone uses a mark viii/thunderbird/cougar/IRS mustang center carrier, with gen 1 axles, and a gen 1 rear cover in their gen 2. and then makes a custom mount and custom driveshaft.

Sort of. If you need to change gears, then you need the 8.8" pumpking and a custom driveshaft. If he's just upgrading to a limited slip differential, he can use a stock gen 1 pumpkin, 8.8" 28 spline LSD carrier, and gen 1 axles.

curious to what you have done to it to not be able to get any traction with such a wide tire and small motor?

also having to control the throttle is something you have to start doing when ever you have a car that has more power than a honda, where you can go WOT and not be able to break them loose. its called the art of launching. you wouldn't smash the gas 100% when leaving off the line with any car that made real power. try to imagine doing that with a cobra or ZR1, it would just be silly.

Just a note, straight line isnt the only place you hammer a throttle. Auto cross and road courses my friend is a place were people drop jaws at how well my LS beats up on mustangs, camaros and even a vette or two. Thats with an open rear and throttle control. Posi just means stepping up even further to get after some of those german made upper crusted folk. And by the way I own an 2008 Z06 6 speed. Thanks for the input though. LS is still new to me and still sorting out the suspension some, but dam this all started on a bet and i love this car.

I'd love to see some pics of the Z06, please post some. To give accuracy, I'd love to see what it looks like underneath your front yoke. Can't wait.:) I'd love to see every thing you have added like we do our pics here. Do you have those too?
