So wet road + warped rotors = skidding brakes and rear-ending the guy in front of you.

USAA is only giving me $2700 to fix the car as it's a salvage title and that's all the say it's worth after my deductible. I found this same model on Craigslist, but the guy said it doesn't start. I called him and all he says is it stalls after starting (he's Mexican and doesn't speak good English). He's asking only $2500 for it.

Basically what I'm thinking about doing is just swapping either my whole engine or just the non-working parts from mine to his. What do you guys think? My engine's only got around 50k miles on it, so I was thinking about switching them out and just flipping the one I bought.

Either way, you will have some parts you can sell and pocket a few dollars.

I'd say put your money towards a gen II considering what you'll probably be paying to swap an engine and parts from your car to his.

I'd stay away from that car. Based on that cultures attitude towards automobiles; use it up and buy another.

No offense intended, just an observation and info from a friend deeply immersed in the Mexican culture.

That makes the assumption that all Mexicans are the same toward their vehicles. Quite a generalization....imo.

I took a look at it about a week ago. Its deffinatly a POS!! I wouldn't pay anything to take on that headache.

If you've done this type of stuff before and can do it yourself then I say go for it. You can sell the parts you don't need and should have a pretty decent car at the end of it. If not and you're going to be paying someone for labor then I say part your car out and use the money to get into something newer and nicer (like a gen 2.)

That's why I said it's cultural and was going off the description of limited English. Go to Southeast LA and you will see quite the opposite. I wish I could afford the type of paint job I could get there!

Anyway, like I said, no offense intended and just an observation. BTW, my brother-in-law is of Mexican descent and doesn't speak a word of Spanish.

Oh, no way? From the photos it looks like it's in fairly good condition.
Could you tell what the problem was? And all labor would be done by me, definitely not paid for.

Didn't even try and start it up. Pics make it look better than it really is. In my opinion take a pass on this one. There are better ones out there.

Really. So you wouldn't even say it's worth the parts? My LS I have only really needs a few things... the only non-cosmetic parts I need is a radiator and core support. Though depending on the condition of this one I wouldn't mind taking the rear bumper and a quarter panel or two.

I'd obviously be getting it repainted, so the paint job as it is isn't really too big a worry. How good of condition is the body in?

Ouch

In my opinion i would take the money and look for a gen two in nice shape or option two buy the parts and re clip the front end if an only if the frame hasent been tweeked it looks like only sheet metal so you should be able to find parts cheap and at least you know what you had before the damage.

I'm interested in some parts off of it. Pass side front heating vent and armrest if you are selling parts inbox me

why not try to fix it? hood, bumper, radiator, does not seem like that much damage...

If your planning on putting that kind of money into it you might as well find one that runs. It would save a lot of trouble!

You forgot, both side fenders too. I'll bet it's $4-5K+ to fix at a body shop when it's all said and done.

huh? From what I can see the fenders don't seem to be damaged. Furthermore, now that I'm looking at it again the bumper does not look that bad, 1 crack on the top and missing parking lights....
"Bro" what exactly is damaged?

Well what I'm thinking of doing now is just buying that gen1 from CL for $2k or so and using the bumpers, radiator, and core support from that and making mine running again. I think that's about my cheapest option of getting my car running, especially considering how the cheapest hood I can even find is over a grand alone.

All that is damaged is the front bumper, hood, radiator, core support and some other miscellaneous things.

To whoever asked, I'd definitely be willing to part those out after I buy this new one (if that's what I choose to do).

So I looked into it and that LS is not the same one that I looked at last week but very similar. Sorry if I cause any trouble. Are you in the phoenix area?

Might wanna make sure whatever you buy has decent rotors and pads. Then keep up with maintenance! Sorry to see another LS go.

I am, yeah. West Phoenix. You know of any I could scrape parts from?
Like I said, I need a front bumper, hood, radiator, and a core support for sure.

I'm gonna call that dude today and see if he wants to let me look at it.

Does anyone have a power steering fluid reservoir I could buy from them?

try calling around your area and see if any of the wreckers currently have any LS's in their lots, when you do find one like I did, it's PARTS HEAVEN !!!

what ever price they tell you, knock a few bucks of it and tell them
you can offer them "said amount" because you know of another one elsewhere and that you have cash on you today.

Usually they crumble and let you have it a little cheaper.

We have a "U-PULL-IT" yard and I scored both the entire ashtray stack with heated seat switches and the entire upper airflow vent stack for 50$

I'm going back for the Grille, for 75$

Junk yards rule !!! ... just be sure to haggle a little with them.

Thanks for the advice - I called the few around here earlier in the year when i first crashed it and surprisingly none had any LS'. I'll call them all again tomorrow just to see.
Craigslist yields no results unfortunately.

yeah, they come and go, they get them from auctions as "accidented",
some strip them down and inventory the parts, then crush the skeleton,
others have them brought in and throw them out back and only purge
parts as per demand.
