Hey guys, another problem with the LS ( I'm 18 and have had the worse luck with my two cars I have owned... And im not spoiled like a lot of kids and have no help buying cars or fixing them.. So my closest help is you guys :) }

Anyways driving at 60mph on E-way and car just dies... No noises or nothing just shuts off... Pull over throw it in park and it starts on second try.

Get home check my battery. The clear indicator lense is red ? So I'm thinking it's bad.

Took car to autozone they checked battery, altanator, and starter... They said battery was bad. Batteries were $120 + , but my girlfriends dad can get me one from his work for 13$ on Monday :)

Had to drive car today shut off twice at higher speeds ( 50+ ) them started back up with little effort.

My big question is would a battery cause an issue like this ? Random shut off then start right back up ?!

Need some help guys thanks

If it was dying and not dead, quite possibly. Make sure you get a VENTED battery. You don't want hydrogen (as the battery charges) building up in your trunk!

Well, they're all vented. It's just that very few have a single vent tube connection that works with the vent tube in the trunk of the LS. If you've ever seen a hydrogen fireball above a battery, you know that you need this connection when the battery is in the interior.

Anyway, I'd also check the PCM power relay and it's socket in the trunk.

Built up contained hydrogen... Fukashima anyone? Lol though obviously it wouldn't get that pressurized, but still the same physics principles at work... Go watch a video of the number three reactor exploding and you'll see why you want that vent to work hahaha

Once the car is started, it should be able to run without the battery. I don't know what is wrong, but I doubt it's the battery. It sounds like something is shutting the engine off (PCM relay or something similar sounds like a good path to go).

Thanks Guys. Got some more info...

Replaced battery. Starte fine. Took for a spin

Got up to 60mph let off gas car was at 2000rms and instant drop to 1000 then back up to 2000 then back down to 1000 then shut off.

Pulled over and started right back up...
Someone I was talking to on phone asks me how my cats were, and of they smelled and I said I thought they were good.

Got home left car running went to back of car smells like old socks and burnt fireworks ?

Could clogged cats be my problem and how much am I looking at

Ps would this be the sour egg smell I'm getting in cabin the last couple weeks ?

Thanks

I found several batteries for the LS from oreilys and autozone and all were vented the same way as the motorcraft battery.

Maybe so. Remove the [front] O2 sensors and take a test drive. If things are considerably improved, you're on the right track. (Removing the sensors gives the blocked exhaust somewhere else to go, as a test only.)

Usually the part stores batteries are sealed with two vents - one on each side of the case. And those vents are usually not well sized or positioned to accept a vent tube. YMMV.

I got the same exact battery I had before from her dad.
Motocraft single tube vent.

Where are the o2 sensors at ?

They're those sensors just before the cats. If you look under the the car they are obvious. Actually..... On the V6 they are visible from the top. Just follow the exhaust pipe from the header/exhaust manifold and you will see them sticking out from the pipe forward of the cat.

Use a scan tool to record all the PIDs & data that is occuring when the engine shuts off. That will give you a definite cause of failure!

what year V6?

problems could be related to an IAC valve on the throttle body failing, just a thought. or a fuel pump failing

Just got engine light to come on pulled code : p1309

Well, that's a fun one.
Misfire Monitor Hardware - CMP Misaligned, CKP/CMP Noise, PCM AICE Chip

You may have a bad camshaft position sensor or crankshaft position sensor, or the wiring to them.

You should also strongly suspect the COPs. One of them may be putting out enough noise to cause this problem. When's the last time you replaced all the COPs and sparkplugs?

Got the plugs and coil 6 replaced 3500 miles ago.

There code reader says

Verify cam sensor is synchronized
ECM failure
Verify input sensor parameters are correct

?? Should I just pay like tireman the 85$ to figure out what's wrong I don't know anything about cars, oh and I just changed my fuel filter earlier but had the same issues before and after
Thanks

Yeah, it might be time for you to pay a diagnostic charge to figure it out. I'd stay away from chain shops. A Ford/Lincoln dealer is really your best bet. Otherwise, find a good independent shop with LS and/or Jaguar experience.

Yeah I'm going to call ford in the AM to price the diagnosis fee. Hopefully it's not too much. I just have always heard dealers charge a lot and like to lie.

Depends on the area, but it's often about $100.

Okay thanks a lot you all have been great help. I want this problem fixed! So if anyone had to guess what do you think... Ha I'll let you guys know what they say tomorrow

UPDATE:

took car to tire man today, THEY DONT KNOW WHATS WRONG!!!!, they couldn't get the shut off to recreate, and have no idea what it is!!!!! I'm lost here.

By "tire man", do you mean the ford dealership?
Common chain maintenance places won't be very effective with the LS.

Taking to ford dealership monday, just hope they don't try to rape me. Thanks guys, appreciate all the help
