So I was under the dash for other reasons and noticed this wasn't "connected"

I have no idea what it is but it's a hose type of piece which connects to the assembly on the pedal via a metal shaft of some sort. I tried pushing it back on to where it belongs but it doesn't seem to want to go. I didn't press too hard because I didn't want to break it...In the first and second pic it's just loosely sitting in the house and can/will easily fall out. It also had a lot of grease/lube on it....Can I just use more force is there a specific way it must be turned to fit in??

Thanks in advance

Not sure exactly but it might be the switch to turn off the cruise control when the brake pedal is pressed.

I figured it out. Thanks for the responses. Manoli was right - it does indeed move the pedals forward and back. I also found out today that after having the car for about 3 years, it is equipped with a remote starter (At least I found the box) and a switch to the turn the box on and off. The box seems to power up (led light comes on) but I have no idea how it works or anything. When I bought the car it didn't come with a different key fob either so I'm totally confused.

Read the maker off the box and call them about a fob.

A lot of the remote starter companies on the market have DEI as their parent company. Not saying that is what you have but may help if it is a subsidiary product.

FYI (for the curious): The cruise control is normally disengaged when you press the brake pedal via the brake light switch. The emergency backup to this is a hydraulic pressure switch on the master cylinder. (It is this same switch that caused unattended fires in several Ford cars. A recall added a cable with an in-line fuse to solve this. Later, they starting correctly fusing the circuit so that the in-line fuse was no longer needed.)
