So with the alcohol/ethanol subsidy being removed do you think that will mean back to better gas or just higher prices?

In reality, the mandate/dictate from the EPA to use the ethanol in gas needs to be removed IMO

Without the subsidy, those ethanol plants are sure to go out of business.

Since the federal requirement is there, they will still have to meet it. I would expect the price of gas to go up when the subsidies end.

That's exactly what's happening. The stuff is still mandated to be in the fuel, so, if you haven't noticed, the price of gas is rising fast as it's no longer subsidized.


The station around the corner from me is already 20 cents higher than it was over the past weekend.

Also I might add, additive removal such as ethanol, methanol, alcohol does not mean reduced pollution or higher prices, it's just an excuse

I read in the paper the subsidy was 45 cents. So E-10 should go up at most 4½¢ (Of course, your local gas station may try to take advantage of the change and charge whatever they want )

Funny part is that ethanol was mainly produced from subsidized corn. Imagine the price spike if corn wasn't subsidized. But that will never happen. It's the most subsidized crop by almost twice it's next nearest crop, cotton. Got to love lobbyists and big money.

That's also why corn syrup and HFCS is used as a sweetener in everything, it's dirt cheap compared to what it's replacing.

Ohh, and if you wonder why foodcosts have spiked, it's cause of the ethanol production.

It's most noticeable in livestock prices, since corn is used as feed almost everywhere.

I wonder if it is in fact, more of the 99% are taking advantage of the law and getting the 0.45 per gallon alcohol produced.

I'm no fan of alcohol/methanol/ethenol additives and think it's a bunch of crap to begin with.

I've heard several radio interviews with regard to a book alcohol is a gas, and they explain you can distill your own alcohol for fuel and claim the credit from the government. I don't know if it's 1000 gals per month or year, but can be done without a license.

Might be time to get back into the shine business.

There is a limit, and you will have to get caught and arrested to find out what it is for sure! That's the sad part. Plus there are a lot better things then corn to make ethanol from. Sugar beats being one of them. Grow almost like a weed I am told.
