this isnt about a mark viii but i need help. my dad has a 03 mercedes C320. he was driving it around 20 mph and giving it gas, no RPM spike, the engine didn't rev or anything, it just went like it was in neutral. he turned the car off, turned it back on and it was fine. he took me driving last night. while attempting to launch from a dead stop, i put my foot all the way down and same thing happened, no RPM spike, you didn't hear the engine revving at all. turned it off and restarted it, it was fine. the car is a 2003 with only 46k miles on it. nothing has been modified on the car except an exhaust system. what could this be? he is going to have to bring it in to Mercedes service but im sure you all know thats not going to be cheap depending on what it is. what can this be? any help would really be appreciated

No cel on?

Based on symptoms alone id be looking at throttle control.

I agree. When you hit the gas, and to see no reaction from the car at all, I'd be looking at TPS.

I'm pretty sure those are dbw. App sensors, throttle motor, one of the tps on the tb (usually 2 sensors)

it wouldnt at all. i had my foot all the way to the floor in the parking lot, no rev, no rpm spike, nothing. it would go slow and react as if i put my foot down later than i really did.

Throttle pedal failure is said to be a common problem for the C320.

If you are getting a DTC P0122, you can remove the pedal and have
your dad take the pedal assembly to the dealer to be tested with a
scan tool.

Replacement would probably cost around $160-$200 retail. Removal is simple.
a 13mm socket is all you need. Throttle control is electrical so all it takes is
unplugging a wire harness from behind the pedal assembly.

Another possible cause would be low voltage. Check to see if the battery
cables are tight. Also check for loose harness connection behind the
pedal assembly.

Try what Ren Said above and the Mass Air Flow. the 112 Engines have issues with the mass air flow and low voltage. I've seen a couple pedal failures as well.
