1)When you turn the a/c "off" but keep the vent blowing i am assuming the compressor shuts off and your just blowing outside air thru to the inside?

2)If this is the case then if you set the climate control to 60 does that eliminate any heat from the dccv to affect the air? Therefore if the outside air is 50 i should be getting around 50 degree air to blow thru using the vent.

3)Does the direction of air (defrost, main vent, mixed) affect temp in any way or just direction?

I am asking this becuase during the summer the a/c never seemed to blow as cold as it should, now during the winter it wont really get cold. Even with the climate control set to 60 and outside air being 50 the air blowing thru the vents is about 75. I already replaced the dccv awhile ago but i am thinking it is failing partially and not allowing accurate temp settings.

Any thoughts?

I thought I read somewhere about a blend door that has an actuator that goes bad or gets stuck. I could be wrong

Must have been on the mark side...we have dual climate control valves.

The LS has no air temperature blend door.

The Gen I LS does have a cold air bypass door, but it is never used to control temperature.

1. Yes. As long as the light is off, the compressor should be off. I've never tried it. At low temps, the compressor runs very little anyway.

2. That should be true.

3. Just direction.

It may be that your DCCV is not closing 100%. Also be aware that when you turn the key off, the valve opens and there is still enough circulation to get the heater cores hot. It takes a few seconds of airflow after startup to cool them back off. You should still get accurate temperature control since the climate controls knows the air temperature coming out of the vents and should be able to compensate for minor valve leaks.

You'll have to do a proper diag on it. Hook up some A/C gauges, and check the heater core tubes. Probably need someone near you to go through it with you. (1) is correct. (2) is supposed to be max-cold, but if outside temp is still below that setting, it may very well try to warm it up. Who wants their car to be below 60? You're not storing roadkill in there, right?
Direction can affect it. ie, defrost must be outside vent (not recirc) and may automatically engage the compressor. The manual always says to use the dash vent setting for tests.
