Where to wire an underhood light?

I have an underhood light and was wondering where to tie it in to the electric that is always hot.

I'd tie it off a wire that times out (goes to sleep) on the existing interior light circuit, so if it's ever left one at least it will go off when the rest of the lights time out...

One of two reasons: it either has a mercury switch when you open the hood or it has its own on off switch. Mine has it's own on off switch and a extension wire with a reel to wind it back up.
