Did a search and didn't find anything useful...

So, how do I remove CDs from the 6 cd changer in my 2004 LS?

Is there a tiny hole to poke like with a PC? or some button combination?

My CD player has been getting alittle flakey, it plays OK and then seems to get confused and then switches over to radio.

Now, this week, I think it is dead. I got a clicking sound from the player after selecting a different # disc. it kept clicking even after I truned the car off and opened the doors.

Next time I started the car, the display showed Error initialization. And then the player switched to radio and stays ONLY on radio. I cannot select the CD player at all now, it just cycles thru AM FM1 FM2 and back to AM.

The 6 CDs still show up on the display but I cannot get them to eject or get anything from the player.

One interesting thing, I didn't think the stereo had power to it when the ignition was off and doors open, but I can push the Eject button and the CD player will display and initializing message and click a lot. So it seems there is power to the changer all the time. Don't know if that means you can play the stereo even without the car running or recently shut off. Don't think this has anything to do with my problem, but interesting.

So What to Do?

Thanks,

Jim Henderson

Use the search button. There have been numerous post about this very problem.

that was the frist line of my post. I did search, all I got was several hundred threads on removing xyz you name it. Didn't want to go thru them all, yes lazy I know.

Just now did another search and narrowed it to LS forum, got over 500 hits.

mine got to be like this, switch it to disc six and then remove it and take the case apart and you should be able to get em all out, that what I did, I also replaced it with a new kenwood.

How about the new jack telling you to search maybe we should tell him to read.

well i have two different ways that i remove CDs from a changer that is jammed or broke.

first off, both ways require removing the radio, after radio is removed, unplug it, then give it a good shaking in all directions (warning* there is a good chance that if the radio wasnt broke or jammed, this will probably do just that) then plug it back in and let it initialize and see if it will eject them, i have good luck with the maraca's technique about 30-40% of the time, it will get the unit past any jams, and once a CD changer starts to jam, dont stick any more CD's in it because it will happen again. if this doesnt work then on to the fun steps

option 1: requires the use of a big hammer, i dont think that i need to give out any further instructions!

option 2 requires the use of small screw and torx drivers to disable the radio piece by piece until all of the CD's are out.

i usually start with method two and about halfway through just start tearing parts out of the way, fully disassembling and reassembling the player is quite the task unless you are a watch maker!

I am not a watch maker but my family in Switzerland is, unfortunatly I'm not closely retlated enough to get free or discounted watches, and I can't afford one at retail they make rolex's look cheap

Yes, it's powered all the time. When it was working, you could have ejected the CDs even with the key off and the door open.

Fixing It

Along about '06, (I bought new in '02), I had much the sort of problem you have described. I used a combo of tools---a pair of elephant-nose pliers, a junk CD and even, if I remember properly a pair of tweezers. If you manually lift the door, I found that I could see the edge of the first jammed disk. I used a combo of the edge of the junk CD as a lever, the tweezers and then the pliers to persuade the jammed disk to come out. When the first one was out, the rest of them came out normally. But a few days later I had another jam and had to do the same thing again. After clearing the second time, I went to CarTunes to look into buying an aftermarket set-up. They offered a tune-up/cleaning process instead and fifty bucks later (or thereabouts) I was back to operating like new. And it still works just fine to this day.

Since I don't care about breaking glass or being heard three blocks away, the factory equipment has been just fine for my purposes!

Thanks for these ideas. So I should be able to see the jam and hopefully extract the CD that is jamming the rest? Does the player need to be out of the car for the tuneup?

2002 Lincoln said to "switch it to disc six and then remove it and take the case apart and you should be able to get em all out"... How do you switch to disc 6? Mine doesn't seem to pay any attention to what buttons I am pushing as far as the CD player goes. Do you mean to take the player out and open the case of the player? Thanks for the ideas, but clarification would help deconfuse me.

BTW, when ever I get in the car and put in the ket, even with egine off, the player makes that clicking sound for maybe 10 seconds, then Stops.

Thanks guys,

More ideas and clarification should help when I dig in this weekend. If anything I try works, I will post for future reference.

In my case, the problem was one of the alignment of the interior processes. The disk was not being pushed-up far enough and was getting caught on the opening somehow. Sliding the junk disk in under the caught one made it clear, but then things were too tight for the now-clear disk to be pushed out by the mechanism. Thus the tweezers to raise it a little more so the pliers could grasp it and pull it free.

CarTunes took the deck out of the dash and sent it to their repair place. And then they put it back in after the 'tune-up'.

Your a f*cking clown. Felt the need to log in just to respond to your idiotic statement. Way to be non-productive and come off sounding like an ass on your 13th post. Clown.

BTW... The search function isnt all that great at finding certain topics. With the couple of problems i have had recently i did alot of searching first and it just comes up with hundreds of non related posts. Ends up being a waste of time.

OK, thanks for the additional info. Will take a shot this weekend, if I succeed I'll post what I did if it is worthwhile.

.... another idea... depending on how its "jammed", i've had success lifting the hatch and using an old CD to push the "jammed" one back into the unit, or if u can wedge it on top of the jammed CD, it buts enough pressure and will slowly pull it out.... start with the easiest ideas and work up to the sledge.... worst case, its a accuse to but a nav screen in. :D

I had the same question a few weeks ago about the same thing, I found the answer to my question searching the forum and hundreds of other sites. The fact that you logged in to respond to my statement and mention it to the entire forum makes you even less mature of a clown than you portray me to be. I am no stranger to forums. This one has millions of questions, however if you do no use the correct syntax you will never find your answer.
