Hello everyone. My name is Mike just wanted to say hello, and that this is a great website with lots of good info. I just bought a 2000 ls v6 sport package with 104k for my son. I didn't realize how much fun I was going to have working on it, until I started reading the forum. A few issues that I didn't find answers to using the search button. ( New here, but not to forums :))
1) advancetrac icon on dash stays on constantly, the button on center console is inoperable, and previous owned said it was blowing a fuse as soon as he put a new one in. I'm guessing there's a short somewhere, or the switch itself is bad? Any thoughts?

2) Moonroof will pop up and close normally. When I try to open completely, it will start to slide back, but only about an inch and then stops. I've pulled the headliner, but can't see anything that would cause it. I've greased the tracks and thought maybe the alignment is off? That even possible?

3) Heated seat switches appear to not be working. Fuse is good. Haven't pulled dash apart, but wondered if the heated seat switches could both go bad? One module control both? The cigarette lighter works though.

Any info would be appreciated. I've already reconnected the moonroof drain tubes and zip tied them. Replaced about 5 bulbs that were burned out. Ordered 2 new adjust link for rear suspension.
I have to say I had a mitsubishi evo and the guys and gals on that forum were great. I've been on several other forums, and this is the only one that has come close to having the same info/insight that I'm used to. Thanks again all, and thanks for having me.

*Update*

advancetrac problem solved thanks to luckieleo's post about the yellow plug under the driver's seat. So one issue solved.

Moonroof I did find a thread about resetting the moonroof http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=69158&highlight=advance+trac+button I've tried that, but the moonroof still gets stuck about an inch after trying to open. Still trying to see if there's an alignment issue.

Heated seats I took the console off and pulled the heated seat plugs. I can't tell if they are bad or not. Fuse in trunk is good. Does anyone know if there is a control module that the wiring from the heated seat switch goes too?

Thanks for help, and I'm still trying to figure it out.

The seat elements are probably shorted-out. It's a common problem on early LSes. My rear seat element went out a couple of months ago and, IIRC, it was less than $100 for the element and to have an upholstery shop install it.

post pics of the new car and welcome. you have a unique issue with the moonroof have you tried removing the liner and then removing/disconecting the motor and then try push the moonroof manually and see if there is anything on the track that stops it if it goes back smoothly then look at the motor to see if any thing looks out of the ordinary.

Updated update

Thanks all, I'll have to get some pics...I haven't had a chance with all the trouble shooting.

Advancetrac Well I resoldered the yellow plug wires back together, and I still get the 3-2 code. So either I didn't do it correctly, (and I did try reversing the wires to make sure neither way worked) or clockspring may be bad, but I still have a horn and cruise.

Moonroof I messed with it for awhile today, got frustrated and popped it with my fist from inside the car...BAM! It opened. LOL...go figure, I just needed a bigger hammer. Actually, after looking at it, I don't think the previous owned used it very much, the tracks were all gunked up. I cleaned and relubed everything, now it seems to work well.

Heated Seats Since both switches won't even light up, I'm thinking it's a bigger issue. I was going to get a new switch from a junkyard, just to see if it works on either side, but I'm guessing it won't. I'm also going to get the ohm meter and see if I can find where I've got power up to.

Joegr--my son has been reading the boards trying to learn more about "his" car...and he has read alot of your posts (so have I) and he thinks you're the smartest guy here. I told him I'm guessing your a tech ? Anyways thanks...and thanks to everyone.

A new clockspring will cure your problem. However, YMMV.

My money is on the element. It is a very common failure on the early LSes. VERY COMMON! So common Ford redesigned the element.

It seems like you are confusing AdvanceTrac with SRS. Which problem is it that you have?

Joegr,
My fault...I did mean trying to get rid of the abs light, not the advancetrac. But I also have the advancetrac light on continually also. In addition, the advancetrac switch on the center console doesn't light up, or seem to work either. Seems to be lots of electrical issues.

I think we're still not on the same page.

ABS = antilock brakes - A fault here will also turn on the Advancetrac light since it uses the same system with a couple more sensors.

SRS = air-bag and restraints system. This is what a repair to the yellow cable under the seat or replacement of the clockspring might fix. It's the light that would flash out a 3-2 code.

OK I've been working on this way too long and I'm losing my mind! I'm trying to get rid of the SRS airbag light...and the advancetrac light. I don't know why I said ABS, that's one of the few things that seem to be working. (knock on wood)

Additionally, I've got another issue I've stumbled upon, the 2 front console speakers work, as well as the rear deck subs. None of the 4 door speakers work. I have just started searching the speaker issue. Man, who knew I was getting into so much fun.

The amplifier inside the radio headunit is probably dead if all the door speakers are out but the image speakers and the subwoofers do work.

If you have an AdvanceTrac light on but the ABS light is off, it's going to be one or more of the following three items.
1. Bad steering angle sensor (may just be dirty).
2. Bad YAW sensor.
3. Module not calibrated.

I'd bet on a clockspring for the SRS problem too.

OK, I'm working on a couple issues at once. I've put the airbag issue on hold, but I will do the clockspring eventually to see if that cures it. I searched the forums and found that by holding the 3 and 6 buttons on the radio it does a diagnostic test speaker by speaker. When I do that all the door speakers work, but the rear passenger. I've pulled all the speakers and tested them, they all work, including the rear passenger. I'm guessing that the wiring is bad somewhere, so time to track that down. Thanks for the info and I'll keep searching and posting. Hopefully be able to help someone else.

With the possible exception of the one door speaker, it sounds like an internal headunit problem to me.

Well things keep getting more interesting. I took the radio out to see what I could find, and low and behold, there are 4 bare wires 2 in the 20 pin and 2 in the 16 pin plugs. It looks like someone did some rewiring, and left the wires unsheathed. I took electrical tape and wrapped around the wires individually, now 3 of my door speakers work. Only the pass rear speaker won't work, and I'm sure it's in the wiring. I'm also guessing the heated seats may be affected by the wiring, but still working on that. Also, the moonroof sticking keeps happening. It will work for a bit, then will get caught if I try and fully open it. Something on the drivers side is getting caught, but I can't tell what yet. If I push on the roof it pops and opens no problem.

I'm having the same issue with my ABS light and Traction Control light (not always on, sometimes on or off) Took it to a shop and got the following codes C1095 and B1342.

C1095 is for ABS Hydraulic Pump
B1342 is for ABS Control Module

I was told to fix the ABS Control Module first as that might fix both codes.

Anyone here know any more about this or how much this will cost?

Mike hope this helps you a little with your light problem as they sound similar.

*Final Update and farewell*
Well I've decided after trying to fix the problems I had and now the car throwing codes left and right about misfire and bank running lean, I'm not messing with it anymore. I've had the car 2 months and it's been the biggest pain I've ever had with a vehicle and I've had alot. I wish I had found this forum prior to buying the car, but live and learn. So I took a thousand dollar loss and traded it in to get a 2011 Honda Accord. Thanks to everyone for your help and input, and I hope you have better luck with your LSs!
