I havent done a code scan yet, but all of a sudden when i start up, it take about 3, 5 second tries. before today, it would start up in about half a second. no CE light came on.

runs at 2K for 5 secs then down to reg idle.
what ya think? IAC going out?
would Seafoam help?
If its an IAC, im not looking foward to doing that with my sausage fingers.:(

Could be a few things, but check the crank position sensor first. I can cause no starts, long starts. Crank sensor controls spark, cam sensor controls fuel injection.

The crank sensor is down by the AC compressor. Just to its right in the base of the block. Try unplugging it and plugging it back in. If the problem goes away, it may be that. No hard to replace, but not fun since the compressor has to be moved out of the way.

Another quick thing to check would be the MAF sensor located in the air cleaner box. Maybe something got stuck to it. Never touch the sensor, just spray with NON-FILMING electric parts cleaner. I usually use half a can. Spray, let dry, spray again. Even then is just good maintenance.

By the way, what year?

How up to date is it on maintenance? Plugs/wires, fuel filter, etc?
Plug wires are 1 yr old. MSD Reds., plugs are 3 months old. copper 764's.
fuel filter is 2 mo old. motorcraft.
once past start, itruns good.

I cleaned the air filter. then sprayed some cleaner on the MAF sensor. more down the throttle body while running and sprayed a little in the IAC hole. starts right up good now.

ran a fuel pressure test. when starter engages it goes up to 42. as soon as you shut it off it goes to zero.
when running pressure drops to 23 or so and stays there.
looks like it might be fuel pump time...

That running pressure seems indeed low. I think 30-32 was ideal. But I would consider the pressure regulator, I think its also responsible for holding pressure when off. Since yours drops like a rock AND you have low pressure, it may just be that. Especially if its original. You can also pull the vac line to it and see if that line has fuel in it.

fuel pressure regulator first. it is easier and cheaper.
then fuel pump. it does sound like a regulator problem.
you have the same problems as my bro's SHO. and i know that's a regulator problem.
