I was having problems for a while when after driving for a while the car would start stalling and bucking.

Finally decided to change plugs and found 3 of the plugs drenched in oil.

I assume this is the valve cover o rings?

How hard is it to do the passenger side on98?
Looks pretty easy to me, but am I missing something? Does the motor have to be lifted? Anything special?
Change the whole gasket or just rings? Price of parts

Thanks !

The passenger side is not so bad. The driver's side on the other hand will get the best of you if you've never done it before, and you will no doubt do a "Ripped Camel" on it before the day is over.

Yep, I keep reading about it.

I m lucky, its the passenger side that needs gaskets, drivers side is dry!!! :D

So some say I need to pick up the motor a bit, some say no. Is this something I can do myself with moderate amount of tools. I just changed the plugs so I am sure I can do this too.
Does the throttle body have to come off for the valve cover to come out?
Also, do I need any sylicone/gasket maker ? Or do I just lay the gaskets down on the head and cover it with a cover?
Reason I am asking is, it just looks way too easy.

Thanks.

When you take it off there are some spots where they put silicone on. I don't know about a stock gen II intake but for my cobra intake you had to take the throttle body off. If you put a new gasket on the valve cover, it's going to be a bit bigger, the guy at the Lincoln dealership said that's how their made and you have to cram it in there.

Help?

A little update.
So i have been trying to fix this problem since day 1.
Car was fine all winter, but in summer, the hotter it gets, after driving for an hour or in traffic, car wont revv past 4k then 3k then 2k, neutral or drive. Feels like the revv limiter is just cutting it off. Shakes too when at its worst .

So I found passenger side 3 plugs, coil pack boots are full of oil, 1 inch at least. I am thinking maybe they are shorting out when very hot. I replaced the plugs and car was good for a while but the problem came back.

I will change the valve cover gasket and o rings this weekend and use dialectic grease around the boots. Do you think this could be the cause of my problem?

Car runs fine when cold and warm, only after prolonged driving or high temperature runs is when it starts bogging.

Fuel pressure is Fine. New Fuel filter, TPS, Plugs. NO Codes. New Mass Air sensor. No odd heat or smell from cats.

Can a coil pack go bad when hot? Wouldn't it throw a code??

Get that valve cover fixed
After that make sure all boots are good and coils are good
then I think its a %90 chance your problem will be gone

Thanks, Coils look visually good. Some of them are not motorcraft, but most of them say motorcraft on top.
Boots are like new as well. Looks like someone changed them at some point.

The only think I can think of is oil shorting out the coil when it gets really hot.

common problem on LSs (also COP). VCGs leak oil all the time. the oil can degrade the boots and then the spark will escape through the cracks and not to spark plug. so get that fixed soon.

Will do this weekend and report back. I got a Canada trip planned end of June and want to take the Mark 8 this time.
