2002 LS - Loud Whine Under Hood

Hey guys. My 2002 LS V8 has had an intermittent whine coming from under the hood for the past couple of weeks. Gernerally I hear the sound at startup, at idle, and at lower RPMs. I can usually hear it as well anytime I press the gas.

Tonight while driving, the "Check Charging System" light came on. I'm assuming it's the alternator. I replaced the battery in January, so I doubt the battery is the problem.

What do you think?

could be

could be serpentine belt slipping or going bad, or tensioner going bad. If your charging light is turning on and you have 100k miles or more I would suspect you might be looking for a new alternator....ps do not buy a remanufactured alternator.

The "Check Charging System" message is only triggered by a fault with the alternator, the wiring to it, or the PCM. It is not triggered by any battery issue.

While I can't promise that it is the alternator (very probably is), I can promise that it isn't the battery.

106,000 miles actually. My mechanic said it was the alternator, and it's being replaced today.
