well as you all know ive bin waiting for it to warm up before i get working on installing my new HU. but i have run into a really big problem. this afternoon, my mk has bin sitting for 4 days, i go out start her up and i get no sound out off the radio. it powers on, but no sound out of the speakers. i tryed takeing the neg off the battery and letting it sit, nothing. checked the fuses and there all fine. looked at the amp in the trunk, and nothing was loose.

now my radio has bin making a hi pitch squeal sense ive had the car. i think that the amp finaly died on me. but is there anyway to check?!?! also im getting no sound from the phone. so i think my amp died, what do you all think?:confused::confused:

Amp died. Iirc the phone is hooked up to the amp in one way or another. Looks like you'll be starting your project sooner then later..

I'm STILL waiting for my 3200dvd..Fu ck ocs.com..

yea i got a 3200 BT off amazon, it took 2 weeks for it to get here...

so looks like i need to get a new amp. also might be getting new speakers then!

um... whats a good amp to pick up?

If you wanna keep it simple just get some middle of the road 5x7's and wire them up to the 3200bt. It'll get plenty loud for ya. If you plan on a bigger install get some f+r comps and a decent amp that puts out 40-50rms x4. That will sit you pretty if you decide to add a sub stage in the future.

There are decent name brand entry level/nos comps out there in the 50-70 shipped range per set. I picked up 6.5 Cadence alum series comps (ebay) for cheapness on sale. I'm being a douche and seeing what they sound like on the h/u before i buy a 4ch. Figure if they get decently loud w/o distorting i'll prob keep them hooked up.. The 3200dvd/bt's have a nice 8 band eq and other sound tuning adjustments so i'm not to worried.

this summer, im just going to take my Mk To a radio install place and have them redo the entire sound system.

i thinking all new speakers, new amp, new wiring and a 2 subs in the trunk... but again i got to figure out the cost. im not made of money... LOL

update.

Guys my amp died about 2 weeks ago. so i put in a amp i got from jamie, and i still have no sound.... is there any way to test the amp.

Btw, i have 2 mk Viii's. so i tryed the head unit in the other car. head unit works. so its the amp or something eles. i cant put the amp in the other car, because it has a regular sound system. and the one thats broken has a JBL system.

any way to test, or dose anyone one have a amp that they know works?

do you get power to the radio? If so could be a frayed speaker wire If not could be a fuse... did you replace the amp with the correct model #? when my amp went out I was still able to get very faint sound from the speakers...if you can track down a dealer service manual for your car it has a complete section on the sound system...this will also come in handy in everything you need to know about your car without having to annoy RA with questions posted to this forum.

i have 3 service manuals. one for a 1993 one for 1994 and one for 1995. i get power to the head unit. but no sound what so ever coming from the speakers.i checked all the fuses. fuse #16 and #17 on the dash. and #21 in the engine. also i swaped the amps for one built in 95. and my car was build in 2/95. also, i was reading to the book, and when i got to the end of the "trouble shooting" it just said to remove and repair then reinstall. says nothing about how to repair it.

I have a extra amp I bought by mistake..what is the amp model number you need? From what I remember the amps are specific to model year...

are they really? i was told by jamie that any year JBL amp 1995-1998 will fit in my car. i think your thinking of the 93 and 94.

i need a amp for a 1995 with the JBL audio system.

I can only speak for the 1994 model year that amp was model specific for my JBL system..find out what the specific amp model # was originally in there then PM me so I can see if the extra amp I have matches.
