I sanded down all the wood trim on the dash and painted it silver. I also painted the center section with the climate control unit, and the side vents. I didn't get to the doors due to rain. I'll have installed pics later tonight.

The real wood in gen II looks damn nice and keeps the car classy.

what kind of paint are your using.. i tried using the dupli color plastic an vinyl and it came out really bad.. can you give me some advice?

Tape job looked alittle sketch :( i hope that piece turns out well for you. looks like a hard one to paint since you can take any of that out.

I can tell you that is a whole lot better than the fish scale aluminum trim. why couldn't they just go with a nice brushed look if they where going to use alum? i liked the fake wood in my 1st gen better than this weird finish.

dont like the wood color??

IMHO the fake wood in the gen 1 was cheap looking

I like your future project to retro fit genII headlight

And wood remove the sport side of the LS

Thanks. Just saving up the roughly $100 to buy the WPT758 connector and bulb sockets.

I used the plastic fusion paint the first time and didn't like it. This time I stripped the paint, sanded with 220 & 400 grit, cleaned with acetone, let dry, hung the pieces, laid down about 6 coats of Duplicolor sandable primer, sanded the rough spots, and laid down 6 coats of Duplicolor silver. I'm going to let it cure and maybe sand it with some 2000 grit to finish. It took me about 4.5 hours to do it all, and it turned out pretty good.

There are 2 layers of tape on there. My A/C button was loose already so I tried to pop it out. It broke the other tab so I taped all the buttons. I'm ok with how it turned out though. I couldn't figure out what to do with the lights about each button, so I taped over them too.....

It was dark so I only have 2 good pics of the trim installed. Yes there is a smudge above the buttons on the center vents. I need a new one anyways since the button brackets finally broke.

I think the silver looks good in the dark interior LS's. My button mount broke too, don't buy a new one. Guerilla glue!

I used gorilla glue when it cracked orginally. Now it's broken and I have no clue where all the pieces went.

Ooh bummer. Well I guess thats what I have to look forward to. There is a parts car here in Milwaukee that just came in almost untouched at the moment. I'll check and see how much that part would be for you if you want.

looks pretty good! im glad the got away from the center wood grain on the gen 2's i like the silver center on mine;)

Looks good!

Just a tip to help with the paint adhesion, use Bull-Dog adhesion promoter. That stuff will make paint stick to anything including plastic valve covers, it's an excellent product!

looks good i love how it give it that sporty look, i got the center done, and i planned on doing all the wood trim in the car also, but how do you take it off the door and everything, or did you just leave it on and tape around it?

I went the opposite direction and added more wood trim....

Take the door panel off and you'll see metal clips on the back of the plastic tabs that hold the trim. You will need to sand or cut the melted plastic off the tip and then take the metal clip off.

thanks, what about the trim on the sides of the steering wheel and above the glove box? same thing basically?

+1 one the bulldog adhesion promoter. I still did primer, two coats of paint and two coats of clear on top of mine. It's shiny, hard and won't peel or chip easy. I used auto paint and let it dry in the sun to ensure a good hard finish.
