Steal of a Deal: Short Block

For moments when my LS isn't enough...my baby. LOL.

Great bike for me. 04 model with 29,000 miles. Only been in the shop one time and that was for warranty service on the stator. I like eating gsxr's for breakfast...

Bikes are too risky for me.

I just feel more secure on 4 wheels.

Just my .02 cents, but it kinda would be a waste of money to get the heads worked. If you are not going with any boost, then the factory heads flow more than enough. If you want to go fast then use that money on a nitrous kit. Just my opinion though.

Not interested in nos. But jms believes there is power to be found in them so I am going with their 38 years of building engines.

I hear you and its your money so do what you do. I personally dont feel its worth the prolly $600+ to have the heads worked for maybe 20 horsepower. Good luck, at least put some custom ground cams in it while you are in their.

It's more than just heads. Having a new motor for less than $1900 and have 20 more hp is okay for my needs. That, is what drives me with regard to doing the heads. I am well within my budget so if threads cost $600, I can live with it all day.

Bit the bullet today. Replaced upper and lower control arms, ball joints, tie rod ends, sway bar links, bushing, as well as the wheel hubs. No sense in putting a new engine in on a suspension with 201,000 miles on it. Alignment first thing in the morning. Trauma to my wallet.... $950.

The things we'll gladly do for our LS. :)

JMS just called. My heads will be ready in 2 weeks. He said that they can "definitely" give them some help and that the 3.9 heads remind him alot of the Honda heads that the Civic crowd sends in to get done. He said he will be thoroughly disappointed if there isn't a 15% gain. I'll take the approximate 37 more hp and work with it. That will more than satisfy my goals for this build.

All this money you spending would be better suited on an newer LS.

Find me one with zero miles on the motor for what I have in what I am building and I will bring a cashier's check. Foremost, I enjoy the car and the suspension costs fall under routine maintenance based on the mileage. I am only considering the engine as a "want". I am not familiar with a lot of members here who have actually(not just talked about) worked a set of heads so doing this may lead someone else to find power who may not have the wherewithall to build blown power(which I really covet).

Sorry to burst your bubble, but NO WAY you will gain 37 horsepower just from working the heads. They won't flow that much better than stock plus you are putting them on a stock motor. You can tell that this is your first motor build, because you believe everything JMS says. Not saying they don't do good work because I am sure they do. It is just hard to get 40 hp from some heads, that flow well as is, on a stock motor. Maybe if you changed the cams, but not just headwork on a stock motor. I would be more excited about the zero mileage motor. Good Luck

A cam is being ground as well.....so my "bubble" is still quite good. And actually, I am 40 years old with 5 cars in the stable, along with the cbr. My 68 Chevelle has the real money in the engine, rear end, and tranny. Roughly $9000 invested in those areas alone. This is far from my first go round with engines. The ls is basically a daily driver that I felt like playing with. I am sufficiently sure there is that type horsepower increase to be had and do trust jms extremely well.

Well seeing you are getting cams too then I can see 37 horsepower with the cams.

$9000 on motor, trans, and rear end is pretty good, but when I think play car, I am thinking more like $9000 on the motor alone.

CBR??? I use to have one, but then went to Suzuki because they are on top of the street bike scene. I like a faster bike, not one that takes corners faster. No curves on a drag strip.

Geared 1 down 2 up, A Tech air intake, Yoyodyne Slipper Clutch, Bmc Filters on the Cbr. The Slipper is more for the backroad riding we do. Straight lines get to be boring to me after awhile but the gearing compensates for hard launches and breaking kids hearts who only want to play for a quick mile. LOL....

Oh yeah.....faster depends on the rider.....not the bike.

You are true on this statement, but this Suzuki will without a doubt beat the CBR unless you are spraying NOS. 2008 GSXR 1000-- 2 down in the front 1 up in the back, Yoshimura full system, air shifter, BMC race filter, PC3 with basic tune, Shinko Drag Radial, 12 over swing arm, fully adjustable lower links, and a strap for the front end only on the track. Running consistent 9.10s so I know that CBR is not running even close to that. They are all fun to ride, but I have seen too many people get hurt riding on the street like they are pros. I stick to the track. I use to be a trick rider, but after watching my boy flip end over end doing a wheelie down the highway, I decided to lower it and drag race.

Nice buy on the motor and by no means am I jocking on it. I am just merely saying that I would be happier about having the zero mileage motor then headwork, but adding the cams too made it an even sweeter deal.

Tricks are for kids... Yoshi??? So so. I run a full titanium Moriwaki. Go do your homework....or look closely at the pic of my bike posted earlier in this thread....lol. They start at $1600 sir. Pc3... have that as well. Head work on the bike...YES!!!! 9's are normal to me. I don't spray anything I own. No Nos... Just balls. ;)

But seriously, I have always said this was about having a zero mile motor for less than $1900. Some may not see the point but I do and look forward to seeing how it performs. I want something that performs across the powerband and strongly believe the heads on the ls have it to give.

Wanna back up that talk? I will put up $2000 cash to your new LS motor on who will win a legit drag race off a pro tree. I am that confident this Suzuki will win hands down.

$1200-$1800 is the norm for most full systems so $1600 or titanium is not anything special. I personally would like an Akrapovic full system, but those are $2000 for the system I want. Please race?? I could sell your motor for my exhaust I want.
