It has been a year and one week since I purchased the LS, and I feel obligated to sum up my experiences and thoughts on the car, especially given the nature of almost every car forum. People will complain more than praise a vehicle.. it’s time to give back.

My LS is a 2003 V8 Sport black on black, purchased with 118,000km (currently at 130,000km). The exterior condition of the vehicle was good for the most part: some small rock chips on the front bumper, and minor paint chipping around the rear text. No scratches, damage, rust, etc. The interior was also good, apart from a broken ash tray (removed the spring to fix that). Mechanically, the car didn't seem to have ever been driven hard - everything worked smoothly.

I change my oil & filter every 3 months/5000km, and detail her as often as possible during warmer seasons to keep her in top shape.

Dependability/Reliability
So far, my LS has been very good in terms of its reliability. Apart from regular maintenance (oil, filters, plugs, coolant flush, etc), there have only been a few wear and tear items that I had to replace:

  • Stabilizer bar end-links - Moog: $180
  • Coil #8 - OEM: Replaced under warranty
  • Battery - OEM: $150
  • Soon: complete brake-job all around, struts/shocks all around

Other than having to get a boost once, I haven’t experienced any mechanical breakdowns.

Small problems that I experienced:
  • Leaking a-pillar (have yet to fix this, once it warms up)
  • Message center buttons broke (easy fix)
  • Trunk needed some minor aligning so that it wouldn't violently fly up
  • Added friction modifier to PS fluid to stop squeaking

Comfort and Performance
As the LS is my first car, I have only driven a few other vehicles prior to it, so my opinion might be a little subjective. I feel that the car is extremely comfortable and quick, relative to my needs. My fuel economy was very good in the summer, but has suffered in winter, which is to be expected. I’m not too concerned with mileage though.

Winter Performance
Being Canadian, I had to touch upon this. At times, especially following fresh snow fall, the car struggles in snow when taking off. The winter tires I have on are Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3, which are marketed as a “high performance winter tire.” Perhaps the tread isn’t aggressive enough, but either way I could use some extra weight in the back. Otherwise, on plowed roads, slush and water the car has no problems at all.

Mods
Exterior
  • Tint - 35%
  • OEM HIDs, with GE Nighthawk Platinum bulbs for high-beam
  • 6000K LED fogs - VLEDS
  • LSE grille
  • LSE Tail lights - Lamin-X
  • 4” Magnaflow tips
  • Debadged

Interior
  • PIE iPod Adapter
  • Light burl wood trim kit (only replaces the sport CF imitation)
  • LED trunk light (was missing entirely when the car was purchased)

The LS is my first car, and it’s an amazing one. It looks great and offers lots for my needs, and I plan to keep it for as long as I can (I have extended warranty for one more year) :)

Cheers, and sorry for my giant post :p

Nice Post...its good to see a happy LS owner.

By the way, very nice car for your 1st one! Way better than my brown Buick Regal :D

Are those T-Bird wheels in he last Pic? I dont think I have ever seen an LS with them.

+1...but wow only a year?...I've had mine for 6 years now. You've kept her in top shape. Keep it up she looks perfect. Any more mods you have in mind for the future?

Looks great ! I love the black paint with the LSE grille. It makes the whole front view look super.

Very nice! I've just completed 3 years of ownership and both my wife and I love the car. Haven't had any major issues other than typical maintenance items expected with a 6 year old car with almost 100K miles (except for one COP replaced under warranty).

This is what gets me.

Over in the mark section theres guys saying the ls doesn't handle or ride smooth. Ive driven many vehicles and the LS is hands down the most comfortable of any ive ever driven.

The suspension is very good, it takes turns tight and smoothly and stock the vehicle moves but after mods its pretty damn quick for a 4000 pound luxury sedan.

^ I agree, I can hit the exact same corners at only 9mph under what I could hit them in my lowered tC. Thats pretty amazing considering my tC weighed 2900lbs with me in it.

Plus the Lincoln does it in style and comfort.

That's because they are used to the floaty, blown air suspension ride. :p

Yeah and look at how much smaller and lighter the TC is.

The LS really does out handle a large majority of vehicles in its class. with a blown 4.6L it could even rival the cts-v.

LOL...im glad we dont have air ride.

Thats just another expensive thing to deal with when it fails.

Thanks guys and girls :)

Yep, T-Bird wheels.. just for winter.

I wanna get my tips pushed in by about 1 or 2cm, and maybe some LED license plate bulbs. That's about it.

Good stuff. 2 years and a few months here and still loving it.

Just finishing my 1 year and 2 weeks of ownership as well. I have been very happy with the car and I was aware of the "issues" with this model car before I purchased this.

My car is a 2006 LS with the navigation and factory HID headlights. The car was previously leased via Ford to someone in California. I did not purchase the vehicle from a Ford or Lincoln dealership. The owner's manual had the leasers name in the manuals and the navigation unit has that leasor's home and parents addresses still saved as points of interest!

The reasons I picked the LS:

  • American made
  • American luxury and design
  • 50/50 weight distribution
  • 4 wheel independant suspension/ 4 wheel disc brakes
  • modern V8 engine with rear wheel drive
  • it's safety rating (I have a 4 year old that I want to protect)

Issues since purchase:
  • plastic cooling system/water parts cracked (common issue)
  • driver power seat track worn. Loud grinding noise (replaced at delivery)
  • windsheild wiper pump broken
  • passenger seat heater not working
  • COP #2 failed

I have an extended warranty (not Ford) and it has protected me well. I have gotten my money back with the above repairs. Car runs great.

I even rented a Lincoln LS from Hertz in 2006 just so I could get a full day of driving this car in hopes that one day I would own one.

Not sure what mod's I may do one day, but so far, it is a purchase that I am proud of.

It's a shame that Lincoln marketed the car as a "mini Town Car or Continental" as the car is so much more and a competive performer to other performance sedans.

what extended warranty do you have,I wanted to get one,but I fealt kinda sketch about the ones I seen advertised here online.

I'm going on three years with mine. Only issues are rear pinion seal, (fixed under warranty), DCCV and three coils. Other than that, I've tinted the windows, upgraded the stereo and replaced the wheels with ones from and '06 Sport.

i heart my ls lol. only issues ive had are coils (replaced them all), my driver's side window regulator broke on my 2nd day of having it lol, and my driver's side door light cover broke off (can be put back on with glue though)

now that im finally modding it the way i want, im lovin the car even more!

What the crap, those wheels!?!? :o

They are just winter wheels.

The weather has cleared up, and it's a long weekend, so I took the LS through a much needed wash. Dried the remaining water on my driveway, and cleaned the interior the best I could. I left the filthy rubber mat out of the interior shot :shifty:
