OEM 8 Spoke help needed

I put on my spacers this morning and I've hit a snag. I was under the impression these would be simple since others with the OEM 8 spokes haven't mentioned this.

My 5 spokes have pockets on the backside of the wheel that accept the old lug stems when you put on the spacers. The 8 spokes do not. Did FLM change the design of the wheels at some point or have the 8 spokes never been like this?? Looks like I'm going to have to find somewhere to have them cut now so I can put on the spacer correctly

Unfortunately not....they stick out a tad stopping them from sitting all the way on the spacer and letting the wheel centric lip to hug the wheel

Maybe you should just grind down the studs to be flush and back the nuts off to clean up the threads.
 
Watch out with compromising the integrity of the stud. The extra stress may have the wheel pop off.

The nuts are on well past the part that would be ground so there's no loss of strength and it looks like he only needs to take a little bit off.
 
I was in a slight hurry when I was trying to swap out for my 8 spokes. I took some pictures after I first installed them and thought they would turn out better if I had on the chrome. I'm going to eyeball it again after work to make sure I wasn't missing something, but is it possible the hub bore on the two sets of wheels are different?
 
The other option is to take a dremel tool and clearance the wheels to fit.
It looks from the back the wheels are half way there already.
Probably just need a little bit more material removed.

Moving the wheel further out adds stress to the studs. The factory studs are carrying the weight of the wheel further away from the stock hub. I can't believe that doesn't add at least some extra stress on the studs.
 
The 8 spokes i just sold were from my 04 and they look exactly like what I had. Mine was built in late 2003 if that would help any.

I wouldn't think so since the spacers are fully on (as the wheel would be if there were no spacers) and the wheel now sits on the new studs (from the spacers) like it was the original studs

Nuts and bolts are pretty strong.
If it's sitting flush together any extra stress from being further out would be neglegible.
 
I can confirm that my Gen II twin-7 spokers don't have the pockets either.
 
GL with the spacers and congrats on fixing the stupid american offset.. Yuck!

What spacers did you go with and what sizes?? I have been pondering this, but still not a fan of the factory 17's.. I love the car, but feel that she needs a replacing soon..
