gen 2= A woman's luxury sport coupe

When the creators of the Mark VIII discovered that the man they created five years earlier was lonely they took a piece of the gen 1 creating for him a female mate where as they could take dominion of the world of luxury sport coupes.

I can see many good reasons to get a 2nd Gen. Love the exhaust tips and the LSC emblem and the improved climate control panel. But I drove many Mark VIII's when shopping to buy three separate times and all the 2nd gen LSC I drove felt heavier, softer suspensioned, and slower. For these reasons I never bought one.

I like both. My '96 has the same climate control panel as my wife's '97 LSC. And the '97 LSC does feel heavier and slower than my '96 base. But when we got the '97, the suspension was much stiffer and it handled ten times better than the '96. However, that has changed with the replacement of the front air spring/shocks with aftermarket units. The ride is now much softer. And that sucks.
