So the really funny thing is that the LS fan pulls a LARGE load - I've measured 43 amps - when running full blast. Generating that extra load from the alternator requires several HP. I'd bet a paycheck that the extra HP cost from the alternator far outweighs any "cooler engine" gain.
It can also be very bad on the engine in cold weather as a full-blast fan will slow down the engine warming.

Frogman, seriously? After all the crap you deal on folks not searching and reading background info, you haven't even noticed that the Gen II are electric fans? Man, my idol image of you just shattered....

i would think its more for keeping the engine cooler while you beat on it and run it closer to its max and handling the extra heat the car is going to be creating, then it is for the extra HP from the temp.

that's what the thermostat is for;)

If I needed to know said info for my personal reference, then I would have, of course, looked it up.

But since I don't have an LS, I don't really need/want to know much over the basics of the model.

And to my defense? At least I remembered that some were electric and some were hydraulic. So... suck it! :p

Speaking from experience (the electric fan swap thread I did), it takes a lot longer to warm up with a fan going full blast than with a fan properly not running until after warm up. Something about the coolant coming into the engine at ambient temp instead of staying warm.
