Engine stumbles at 3k rpm

Hi everyone, new member here. I don't own a Lincoln LS, just did some work on one for a friend of mine. Great info on the site. Had to replace the valve cover gaskets and one coil ( there was a LOT of oil in places ) and the writeup in the tech section was awesome. Everything is back together now ( still smoking a bit, been running about 15 minutes ) with no codes and is idling smoothly. When I get on the gas, just under 3k rpm the engine stumbles as if something isn't firing, but no codes are coming up. Does anyone know anything I might have done ( or not done! ) to cause this to happen? Thanks
 
are you in neutral or park?
cuz there is a 3k rev limiter in neutral and park.

aww. he beat me. lol.
 
Check the flux capacitor. This is pretty common as they are very easy to install backwards which would cause the problem you're dealing with.

I saw a porno where a guy seduces the girl because she thought that he was all intelligent about vehicles.. He was like yea, I had to change my flux capacitor like 3 times in this truck.. :lol:
 
Thanks for the quick replies ( even the sarcastic ones, I love sarcasm ). I had no idea about the rev limiter in Park or Neutral. I was definitely not looking forward to taking things back apart. Just took it for a test drive, runs smooth. Thanks again for the info ( and the tech section ), I'm sure I'll be back on here again when something else breaks!
 
Chris 2523 I went thru all the combos fast and am guessing you went 4.030X3.700 on your Cougar windsor to get 377 CI. Why the 3.700 stroke not to many of that stroke out there?
 
Also make sure you check the air ride (it takes a long time to figure out where the compressor is).
 
i am having a hard time with how ofter this comes up, are there really that many people who have never seen a rev limiter, i have never seen a car misfire so perfectly and fluid at a exact RMP (even set as unusually low as the PRN in the LS) that would make me think that it was anything other than a limiter.

A lot of people havent driven modern cars at all.

I had no idea until i tried to rev it and i figured it must be governed somehow then i came on here and started reading and confirmed it.
 
Just like (I haven't tried it) if you put it in SST and leave it there and don't shift.. It will shift on it's own for people that forget they put it in SST in the first place..

it'll down shift. will it up shift? i hope not. sorta defeats the purpose.
