I need some help fellas, The motor was replaced in my 2000 LS V8. I replaced the plugs in the motor before it was installed in the car (Bosch Platinum). After finally getting the car back I'm having misfires on cylinders 1 and 3. I ordered the ebay coils and installed them just on #1 and #3 to see if it would knock out the misfire issue, no luck, so I pulled plugs 1 and 3 and they were fouled, very rich. I replaced the plugs with Autolite platinums and tried the old coils, same misfire #1 and#3. I rechecked the plugs and replaced the old coils with the new ones and still the same thing. (Yes I checked the gap .039/.042) Would a fuel injector issue cause this? PLEASE HELP!!! Any ideas?:confused:

got your old injectors? It's pretty quick to pull the entire rail and injectors and swap in another set.
Are the other plugs fouled?
 
I was just looking around using the search option and saw where someone said if you're using the Global coils you need to stretch the springs so they seat on the plugs better. That's the one thing I wondered about because when comparing the Global coils to the ones I replaced, the springs don't come out as far as the old ones. Think this might be it?
 
I bought cheap ebay coils. Factory ones lasted 60K I have put 54K on the cheapies and no problems.... For now.
 
Nothing will happen except a misfire.. its not going to blow up or anything.. ;)

Some have had good results with eBay coils and others not so much..

Except, if you let it go with a misfire for a little while you will ruin one or both catalytic converters.
 
Meh, who needs those anyways? :p

Seriously though, mine will be gone soon...
 
Start tracing the wires to make sure there's no breaks for those two. Your mechanic sounded a little ham-fisted, might've messed up the RH coil wire harness.
 
Also check the connectors on the injectors. They are easy to damage such that the won't stay pushed all the way in.
 
I pulled the coil off of #3 cyl. and grounded it with a screwdriver, then started the car, no fire using #3 connector. Using the same coil I plugged it to #4 connector started the car, firing like crazy. Did this using #2 connector, plenty of fire. So then I figure #1 connector must not be firing either, wrong, I plugged up the coil using #1 connector, and its firing great. Then I go back and plug into #3 connector and now its firing :confused: :mad: so I put everything back where it should be, clear the codes and start the car, after a few minutes of running, #1 and #3 cylinder are showing MISFIRE again. wtf!! maybe a short? Any ideas???

What are the exact five character codes? (There are codes for misfire, and there are code for problems with the primary circuit, it would be good to know which you are getting.)

I agree with Joe. I have had problems after changing coils and plugs and the remedy most of the time was just checking the connection of the injectors. Over time, the clips for the injectors become brittle and break and sometimes aren't pushed on all the way when putting the car back together. Start your car and take a little screwdriver and press on all the injectors connectors and see if that clears it up. Are you getting any codes/CEL?

Well my friend, that means that scanner is useless. I would never own a scanner that doesn't supply you with the codes it gets.
 
Me either.. But some of the cheap scanners skip telling you the code and tell you the meaning..

When I go to the shop, we use the Red Brick.. Soon to get the Genesis.. :D
