Should I trade my Continental for an LS?

The title pretty much says it all. I am seriously considering swapping my 1997 Continental for a 2000 LS. I have never driven an LS, and know nothing about them. Here is some info on the LS.

Transmission: Automatic Year: 2000
Model: LS Engine: 240L 8 Cyl.

My biggest concerns are reliability and ride. I drive between 25,000 and 40,000 miles a year and want to be comfortable, and need a car that can get me to my customers, so I can make money.

I know I am in the right place for people to give me honest opinions about the LS and I am looking forward to reading what people have to say.

I have really enjoyed reading every ones comments. The LS owners are a passionate group. Last night I picked up a 1998 Conti with 88K miles on it for $2700.00. If it had not been for this deal, and my really wanting front wheel drive, I know I would be driving a LS right now. The LS is a great car from what I could see. One other fear I had with the LS is how damn quick it is and my inability not to drive it like I stole it. Thank you all for you comments.
 
i love lincolns, but if i drove as much as you i sure as hell wouldnt have one for a daily driver unless it was newer(06+w/ under 40k)... Keep the conti and buy a reliable 4 banger.
 
I doubt youll get honest unbiased opinions here...That being said my opinion is: duhh :D

But i agree with the previous post regarding your driving needs
 
I have had my LS for about six months now and I can tell you that it seems if the first gen LS 2000-2002 have more problems than the second gen 2003-2006. My LS has had numerous small problems but the car has always started up and got me to wherever i needed to go. I do not have nearly as much experience as some of the guys on here but i do know that the gen 1s are notorious for valve cover leaks. This means that you need to ask the dealership to let you look under the coil over plug covers and see if there is any oil in the spark plug wells. If there is you are going to need new valve cover gaskets, new spark plugs, and new coils. If done by yourself, it can be done with about 5 hours work and about 200 bucks. If done anywhere else, the price can be staggering. The sway bar bushings are usually going to need to be changed out if they have not been done already. The hydraulic fans on the gen 1s have been known to cause many problems. I had a problem with my transmission causing it to shift harshly into reverse and have problems shifting in normal driving. That was a simple fix but the control module was fairly expensive. The steering wheel seems to wobble on these cars alot for seemingly no apparent reason. Many have traced it to be the steering rack. Fairly costly repair even if done by yourself. The ball joints do not last long on the gen 1s. If you do decide to buy the car, make sure you look at these problem areas and do a thorough test drive. I didn't and I paid for it. Hopefully all goes well for you.
 
Are you having troubles with your Continental that have made you consider getting rid of it? Are you planning on replacing it and just considering a LS as an option?
 
of course im going to say get it, i love my gen 1, and when things break, i get happy because i get to work on the car :D lol
 
2000 LS is updated again with a freshened exterior,this gained seat-mounted side airbags and even more power (now up to 275 hp (205 kW) as compared to the older version... Its a good thinking to trade to 2000 version.

Um. No. The gen 2s 2003-2006 had those updates. 2000 is the oldest version they have for the LS.

I say dont get it for that purpose. Get a 4 banger like sbcaprice305 said.

if its for a dd, then i would say get a gen 2, if its only a gen 1 your looking at for a dd then don't get it
 
Honestly any car can be a lemon.

If you want it get a gen II. Its a very smooth ride, with lots of options and luxury.
 
Love my LS!

Look for a Gen II without the hydraulic fan. Save some headaches. If it wasn't for my Lincoln my tools would rust.
 
I haven't had problems with the hydraulic fan.. not yet at least.. the ls is pretty comfortable but doesn't get any better mileage than your conti..

Agreed.. I wouldn't trade my ls for anything..
