LS idles REALLY low at rest (in park or drive either one). My wife who had the car before we married said they had to adjust the idle switch one time before.... Idle switch doesn't sound right to me, but I think she's on the right track. Anyone have the same issue and a resolution? Thanks!

Idle speeds on the 2000-2002 are:
V6- 737
V8- 750-770

Idle speed is non adjustable.. Controlled by the PCM.. Check for vacuum leaks, contaminated fuel, and incorrect ignition timing..

There is no idle adjustment. On the 2000-2002 models there is an Idle Air Bypass Valve (IAC) that sometimes fails. It is replaceable, not adjustable. Note that cold idle speed is higher then warm idle speed by design.

LJ asked about the IAC.. The only thing I could find about when to replace was hard starting.. Good to know.. ;)

I would have it scanned and see if there is any stored codes. First step in the diagnosis.

Yes, that is a good idea to see if it is something else. IAC problems won't usually trip a code.

Thanks for the info, guys. Looking like possibly an IAC issue then as there are no codes at the moment. Will investigate as much as a guy that doesn't really know a lot about cars can investigate. :P

Looks like a cheap part... difficult to install?

I took mine off, cleaned it, and replaced in about 10 minutes. I have a 2000 V8.

What's your idle right now? The LS does idle low compared to something like my ranger

I have one of those too, 2001, V6. It seems to idle at about the same speed as my LSes. What year is yours?

99.. 4.0.. I just seems faster maybe? I don't have a tach because the signal to it must be loose because it will jump up and start working on a whim.. And most of the time it is incorrect when it is working

coolant doesn't run through there.. Only through the throttle body it's self.. So as long as you don't take the throttle body off you should be fine

It's probably the noise from the engine driven fan that makes it seem higher. I have the 3.0L flex-fuel (I forgot there were at least 3 V6 options).

Maybe.. From the looks on similar engines, they idle at 700-860.. But idk because they don't give the specs for trucks.. But I guess most people wouldn't be able to notice that..

Plus, I have the infamous power-steering pump whine which probably adds to it.. I have soo much crap that needs to be fixed on this truck but I have no time and/or no money (the LS takes all of my free money :D )

After a night of sitting there (cold or hot temperature outside, doesn't matter), it'll idle between 500-600. Has gone dead on me twice as a result.

I would try cleaning the IAC.. A new one is hella expensive

Thanks. :)

Didn't research a whole lot, but the IACs I found were between $16 and $140... Haha. Not exactly sure which I'd need at this point, but will try cleaning.

*bad coils - heres the manual for the v8

I just read alot about Coil #8,closet to the window wiper motor, to fail because of water leaking. So that could be the first thing people could check if the leak wasn't corrected. that coil will cause many issues, rpm drop, accelerating issues, hard start.
