Simple Brake questions

Hi,

I tried searching the post for the answer but i was unsuccessful. I swapped the pads on my 96 and did not notice how they fit in. The pads just fell out as soon as the caliper was lifted off. When replacing the new pads, the little spring clip like things on the top of the bad. Do those go inside the caliper or do they go through the sqaure hole in the top of the caliper?

Also replaced the rotors on the front and rear along with pads as well. Would this cause a steering wheel shudder effect or has something gone wrong?
 
Depends on where you got your rotors from with the shaking? If they are cheap ass China rotors you actually have to cut them a lil bit before you put them on. We have found them out quite a few thousandths :eek:

When you replaced your rotors, did you clean off any rust or scale from the hubs?

That can cause your rotors to have runout, which will make the car shake when braking.

The runout can be measured with a dial indicator.
 
The springs on the pads do not go through the holes in the caliper, they should be pressed down by the caliper, this helps prevent pad vibration and noise, make sure you lube the caliper guide pins and the tips of the pads where they sit on the anchor bracket

the rear caliper piston will need to be screwed back into the bore and clocked at 6 and 12 o'clock so the inboard pads nipple seats into the groove in the piston, this can be done with the proper caliper tool, or a pair of channel locks will also work

yes. but the steering wheel doesnt shudder when braking only when driving from time to time.
