silicone on coils

I was talking to some of the mechanics at my job about my coils always blowin out, and I was told that I could use silicone around the coil where it meets the valve cover to keep water out the wells, (was told this was a fix that is used on the jags) which is what they said was most likely causing the failures.

Has anyone heard of this and/or tried this before?
 
if you are getting water in the wells then maybe, but i think that its more common for oil to seep down in the well from a bad VCG, or the coil just breaking down on the inside also seems to be pretty common
 
That's what I was thinking. I may try it after I get new coils and plugs and maybe vcg's (if needed). Hopefully it works
 
They did this at the factory on at least some of the 04s. They seemed to have stopped doing it by 06.
I haven't had water on any of the coils on my 04 or 06, and we get some heavy rain here.
 
i dont kno for sure, but when i changed the number 8 coil a couple months ago it came out dry.
 
I was having an issue with my coils and when I replaced them, I covered them in dielectric grease, and have not had an issue since.
 
Funny story. I replaced only two coils when I first got the car, noticed that the new coils had dabs of grease in the boot. So I pumped some dielectric grease into the old coils I was reusing.
That was really stupid.
Grease heated up, thinned out, ran down the plugs making a very nice short circuit. Idled like :q:q:q:q, threw codes.
Took 'em out, cleaned it all up, back to running great.
 
The whole thing about dielectric is that it is nonconductor of direct electricity, are you sure it said dielectric on the product.
