OK, aside from what the owners manual tells you, does anyone get too concerned about their engine light being on for 3 starts cycles? Mine came on once Saturday so I checked the gas cap and oil, nothing up there from what I could tell. It came on and stayed on one more time Saturday and then once yesterday. Today, it was just on during start up. I will probably have it checked when I take it for an oil change later this week unless it comes back on again.

Well, I have a code scanner, so it's more convenient for me to check it right away. However, I don't see any harm in you waiting a few days or even a week to check it. The exception is if the check engine light is flashing. That you have to take care of right away.

Thanx for the reply Joe. It never flashed, just never went out after starting the car. Temp was ok, it drove and ran perfectly. Are code scanners expensive for the newer cars? I had one that worked for my SC but I think it's pretty much useless for anything newer that '96 or '97.

I think that you can get a generic one for around $50. You need to make sure that it is CAN. The one I have was more like $400, but it lets you get all the codes from the ABS and all the other systems on the car, run the engine self test, read any sensor value, program new keys, and so on.
