Tire pressures

I did a search for this but nothing came up so I apologize if I missed one. What tire pressure do you guys run in your stock 245/50-17 tires? The VIN sticker on the drivers door jamb and the sticker on the gas door say 30/30 but my tires say max of 44. At 30 psi, the car just feels a little loose at times. I bumped mine up to 35 to see what happens.

Max pressure on the sidewall is the maximum pressure the tire is designed to run at hot.

Use the pressures the vehicle manufacturer specifies.

Tire pressure is like any other thing. Some people like more, some less than what the sticker(s) say.

More pressure will accelerate the wear in the center of the tire, with that being said I run 34/35 lbs for better handling at the expense of a softer ride.

I always run 32psi.

I run mine at 55PSI cold when I plan on hitting 200+mph.

Of course with the pinto, 200mph is a regular occurrence.

I ran my Nittos at 40psi, max was 55 iirc

I've kinda noticed at 30 psi the the outsides are wearing a bit more than the center. And I'm with you on the handling over the softer ride. The only time I really noticed poor handling was either when it was windy while on the highway or on crappy back roads, which I use both on the way to work and back.

Frogman, you might have already been told this, but you ain't right! LOL

OK, I put the tires at 35 psi last night and the car is almost totally different on my drive to work this morning. It's 100% better on back roads as far as "chasing" the steering wheel.

Nope. Not right at all. Hence the reason for half the things I do.

The Michelin all season tires on my '03 are wearing on both outside edges on all four corners. I've started running 42 psi (51 max on sidewall) to even up the wear after 30,000 miles at 32 psi. The wear on the tire will tell the story of what pressures you need to run.

I've never seen a modern tire blow out from pressure. My CTS has tire pressure monitors, and I see tire pressures increase up to 10 psi from cold depending on speed and weather. Still, I'd stay 5-10 psi below the max on the tire.
