My cd player says "slots full" but there aren't any cd's in it at all. It would seem that it is some sensor that is throwing it off. Any ideas or suggestions?

congratulations! its junk, i worked at a ford dealer for 12 years and the in dash cd changers are crap and commonly do this when they jam up the mechanism. most dealerships have a repair place they can send it into to get fixed but that costs anywhere from 300-700, time for aftermarket!

the ford 6 disc is by far the worse radio ever built as far as reliability, its probably the #1 radio that i have to replace and its never because or anything other than changer jamming up.

What generation is your LS? I have a gen II six disc that I removed from my 04 when I put an AVIC in. I'll probably never have a use for it...

I'm not trying to swoop in and steal this guys deal or anything but do you know if that 6 disk can replace the gen I tape player with remote 6 disk?

Even the tape player has its tape sticking issue... Mine had a tape jammed in it when I bought it. Took 20 minutes to forkout that Smokey Robinson's greatest hits.

Never tried a tape after that but the disk changer seems to work great. I'm just not sure if it would interface with everything (changer could go I guess).

I'm sure that it could be done, but I think that in this case (trying to fit a gen II radio to a gen I car) you would be better off to go aftermarket.

You know, I really dont care for aftermarket dash units.

They look a little cheap to me.

Now one of those real nice Nav systems would look good but I'm not the one to drop $1-2k on a radio.

Thanks

carry on...

I know this is anecdotal and all, but the changer in our 2000 is still going strong 10+ years and 170K+ miles later......

I agree. aftermarket units look cheap and, well, aftermarket. I have always appreciated the stock dash setup.

What do you guys mean by they look cheap??

The best players are aftermarket. Unless you mean the plastic kit that has to be installed, you can always get a silver trim piece from one that had nav and an aftermarket double will pop right in.

No i wouldint install a single din unit unless i needed to do a high end setup with an eq below it. But a properly installed unit does not look cheap. And you can even find ones that match the color of the nav unit.

I have a factory alpine 6 disc player from an 01 that I'm willing to sell. Make me an offer on it!

They look aftermarket and, as they don't match the factory plastics, look cheap. Like GM's gray switchgear always looks like it's faded and old.

Going aftermarket NAV is also quite expensive. If you already have the THX/NAV it is much less expensive to replace/repair the factory unit. Granted, aftermarket units are more capalbe, but just how often does one use the NAV anyway? I know I don't use mine as much as I thought I would. granted, when I do use it, it is pretty invaluable!

I just think aftermarket units cheapen the overall look of the dash. It's like the cell phone hanging off the side of the radio, in a bracket.

Well the stock nav isnt really that great to begin with (outdaded and low res screen) and like i said you can grab the trim piece that comes with the nav system if yours came with the standard player.

Only issue is finding a gray headunit, which is rare but they do make em.

Gen 1 owners dont have that problem as the center console is black. I did keep the thx nav in mine because it was free and i dont watch movies plus i can still use the steering wheel controls. It it screws up, ill grab a $350 pioneer unit.

I dont use the built in nav either...i prefer a standalone garmin.
