what class amp ?

im looking for amps and there are many different amps to choose from im installing subs i need to know what class amp is best and also how much wattage is needed im getting these subs

i have no idea what im doing when it comes to audio i try to understand but i just get lost and confused im thinking that 2000w would be way too much for my car since i dont want to drain the battery
 
I suggest going with a class D monoblock. If youre getting multiple subs, get them with dual voice coils (which you selected). Amps have different ratings based on ohms and please dont look at peak power.

One thing i want to point out, more subs is not always better. Would you be interested in a single sub system? To properly power two of those subs, you would need an amp that can push out 1200w rms @ 2ohms like this one which is rated for 1300w rms:

Or you can get a single sub like an re sx and run 1000rms through it, and shock people with a hard hitting system and a single sub. And make sure you use at least 4 gauge wires.
 
I run the same ones but a year or 2 older. I have a power acoustic a2400db..Says 1500rms@1 ohm I'll say it has 1300rms..It shares the same board as many more expensive amps, wich is why i chose it..Got it on ebay used for 140 shipped.
Those are dual 4ohm so you'll want to look for a class d amp that puts out between 1000-1500 rms @ 1ohm. If you want the most out of them. Type r's will take that 1500 rms w/o breaking a sweat, esp if there sealed.

With the impedence rise my r's end at a 1.9 ohm final load. When i had my 3 hooked up to the amp the final load was 1.3ohms..With 3 r's the amp had way more left in it...I was super surprised considering it was a pa..This thing has about as much balls as my old modded mtx 1501d. Dont be fooled by its name is all im trying to say.

i was looking at that exact amp but i want my system to hit hard and if it can hit harder with 1 then with 2 id go with 1

i would rather have an over powered amp with power left in it then have an under powered amp. im willing to throw out the cash needed im not gonna go cheap and i dont wanna go crazy. i just want above average :D
 
not sure about ls's but you'd prob need a line out converter akaloc..Check PAC'S out. Specificly the "trunk-lok" by them. About 25 bucks
 
yea..Check with the ls guys first though..All i know is that it worked with my factory jbl speakers/amp..

Have you got an amp yet i have a couple im selling if your interested,they are boston acoustics gt24 ,i have one brand new in the box and one used.Check out the specs on them.It would be perfect for those subs ..It puts out 900rms @ 2 ohms.
 
Yup i added the amp and sub to my stock system with an loc mounted in the trunk, and the wires and amp are hidden behind the backseat.

Be aware that the trunk willl rattle...a lot. Im at 500rms and it rattles like crazy i can only imagine what another 500 would do. You dont want to over power the subs though, that cause cause the voicecoils to heat up and possibly blow them.

yeah i know i wouldnt want to over power them i was saying that id rather have an amp turned all the way down with room left than an amp thats turned all the way up

does dynamat make a difference ?
 
if you want the best got with a 600w amp from mmats audio. you can get it at 1 ohm more then enough. i have two ten's and the same amp and its great but before you do it you have to dynomat the whole trunk.. you also need to split the two rear speakers for the rca cable. use at least 4 gauge wire... go with stinger wire 100% oxygen free.. also get a cap bc you will have diming lights. and if you really want to go crazy get a optima red or yellow top battery.. my system hits so hard... will only 600w so

incorrect, those subs linked to are dual 4's, so if you ran each sub's coils in parallel then each sub would be 2 ohm and if you ran both subs in parallel, then you would have a 1 ohm load

for two 12" Type R's (new current models SWR-1243D) you would need a 1 ohm stable mono amp that delivers 1200w RMS @ 1 ohm, anything more would be too much for the subs (over powering is not a terrible ideal but you need to be very cautious when doing so) however that amp you linked to says it is 1 ohm stable so it would work, but it is almost twice the power needed

no it would'nt even work, once again a pair of dual 4's is a total load of 1 ohm, that amp is not 1 ohm stable, there for it would either destroy the amp or constantly send it into protect mode, unless your gonna sell him both of them and then he's getting 50% more power then he needs, either way not even close to perfect.


come on guys, if we are going to make recommendations for other people to spend money, lets make sure that we are getting our math right!

Also, if you are wanting a single sub instead of 2 (to save trunk space), any of those amps 1LoudLS posted would work very well with a DC level 4 dual 2 ohm sub. I know this because that is the next sub I am getting, and my Directed D2400 puts out 1200rms x 1 @ 1 ohm. It would also be about the same price as 2 of those Alpines. Just a thought.

yea ther is really nothing wrong with overpowering, you just have to be able to tell when the sub is distorting or the amp is clipping so that you can back it off a little and not torch the coils

it really depends on where the vib's are coming from, if its two panels vibrating together or just a panel resonating, then it works great, a lot of times a loud sound system will rattle other stuff too that is harder to get rid off like the heat shields under the car.
 
i personally added mat to my entire trunk and it for sure helped a lot but ya theres only so much it can do honestly. Things will still rattle...
 
i had 2 layers in my marquis and it still made noise..My suggestion is to fill as many seems as possible with " great stuff". Use thick rubber washers behind the license screws along with a layer of deadner.
 
MY first question is this. What are you trying to accomplish, do you want a loud sound system or do you want loud and clear sounding system. There is a difference. Buy the way the gain on the amp is not a volume or power knob., it is used to volume match the speaker that you are amplifying to the rest of the system. when adjusting the gain you want to turn the system up to a moderate level and turn the gain up till it just about matches the rest of the system with out getting distortion. THe typeR's are a great speaker. My Brother in law is one of the best installers in RI. He is running 2 Alpine type R's powered by 2 alpine PDX 1.600. Focal speaker in the doors with an apline ddin head unit with navigation and an epicenter, the doors ar powered by a apine pdx4. The nice thing about this amp is that it is 1ohm stable and it is a digital amp. It is also small enough to hide anywhere in the car. If you are looking to maintain trunk space then go with SWR-T12 12" Thin Subwoofer or the JLAudio TW5 thin sub woofer. What ever amp you are using be sure to get a capacitor. all that bass can drain the battery and dim your lights. 1 farad should be enough. also for tighter more controlled bass get a sealed speaker box.
