Has anyone retrofit H.I.D.s into their LS headlights? Im really interested in attempting this. Are there any write ups?

Lots of people have HID's in their headlights on here. Some OEM, some with kits. It all depends on how much money you want to spend and how legal you want them to be.

This link here can be your new best friend

I dont think I would call putting hids retro fitting unless they are projector hids. All you do is put the new bulb in and connect the wires, oh well drill a small hole.

But yeah, many people have them here. Not hard to do so go for it.

Well when i say retrofit, i mean convert?my halogen reflector lamp to a projector hid. to do it the right and legal way, its how u do it. it involves taking the lens off?the housing and making the projector lens fit inside the housing. has anybody done this?

You are much better off to head over to hidplanet.com/forums/ and thoroughly browse their forums. Also check theretrofitsource for great prices on parts :)

Only a handful people, if not less, have done this on an LS. It's not that easy, especially since you'll have to cut open headlights that have black sealant.

Changing to HID is very easy, changing to a projector based headlight is not. They never made a projector based headlight for the LS so you are talking about creating a completely custom headlight.

Ive been on hidplanet and retrofitsource so i know what it involves. i just thought id look to see if anybody has done it to an ls. hoping there would be a more specific write up. im sure i can do it. ill try and do a write up when i do. thanks

The "right" way can be debated, but there is only one legal way. That is to swap out the headlight assemblies with OEM HID assemblies from an LS with the HID option (or order them new). Anything else that you do, even if it works perfectly, was not DOT tested and therefore won't be legal. (It seems that the odds of being caught or called on it are very slim.)

Like mentioned above, if you want it legal your best option is to just buy new HID headlights. I was going to do this mod until I started educating myself about the process and outcome. Then I acutally saw HIDs in an halogen headlamp. It dam near blinded me. There's no cutoff of the beam because the casper lens is not made for hids bulbs. Just my two cents. You'll be better off buying a nice bulb such as PIAA, Hoen, Luminics etc.

I doubt you'll get pulled over for having "illegal" retro fitted projectors in your headlights, unless they are aimed at people's eyes. Cops wont be able to tell or know if your car came with projectors or not, unless you did a terrible job on them and it's obvious.Best options are stock hid or projector retro fit, or just do hid's in halogen headlights, worst for glare though, then just upgrade to a better halogen bulb.

Yeah many luxury vehicles come standard with hid's.

A lincoln with hids is no big deal...its when you put hids on a 89 civic or accord with a huge spoiler and walmart exhaust that you get unwanted attention.

Mine came with the stock hid's, and theyre pretty nice. I would look for the oem headlights.

there was some body that retrofitted a set of lexus headlights in to his LS, the results where nothing short of amazing, there was a picture floating around where it pretty much lights up entire field and the picture is taken from way above.

That's the LS430 projectors' quality - they are known for their width, but are rather large.

damn, wheres the honda love. haha... IM just kidding but i do have an acura.. Just an FYI, imports can be done clean, like mine. They dont always have a huge spoiler and walmart exhaust. And HIDs in any halogen housing will attract unwanted attention. Not just on hondas LOL..

Thank you for everybodies input though. Im going to check out the links listed above, and keep searching on hidplanet. I wish i could find some :q:q:q:qty headlights to practice on. I know I can do it, Im just scared. Maybe a winter project when im not driving it or something. Thanks again.

Yeah well here my 2 cents on imports.....

They have a bad image from all the 16 and 17 year old kids who wanna mimic fast and the furious. Sure they can be done clean...but most are flashy and have a stock engine with a cheap intake and lowered with lots of primer. I like imports as well....im a fan of the 3000GT VR4 and the Supra TT.

But when i see a crappy honda/acura/nissan or whatever it is, i cringe.

He posted this in the Welcome Wagon. This the Acura?

"Here are a few pictures. The blue car is my acura. The car with the tinted taillights is my old nissan"

If it is, its not what exactly what I would consider a clean car. Kinda looks like a weird science experiment to me. But that doesn't matter if you like it man. I'm not here to be a bully. Just my $.02

It is... The front bumper is tacky, i agree. It will go eventually. I bought it when I was 16 so its what went on... Just been busy doing other things. Like for instance, a few things you dont know,,,, building the widebody out of steel from my own design. Shaving the handles, bodyside moldings and emblems. Relocating the gas door underneath the hatch and the antennae to the roof. Cleaning up the engine bay. Building the motor, boosting the motor, building trunk enclosure. etc etc etc. Its clean, trust me. Maybe just not your taste. which is fine by me.
