I'm just curious how many here are running 4.10's with the stock shaft? At what speeds do the vibrations start? Under heavy acceleration does it vibrate too?

It will depend if you have a bad ds. Some have vibs and some don't

Seriously don't do it. You will be pushing it past what it is designed to do and that could become dangerous, and the shaking would annoy the crap out of you. If you need to do it on the cheap go with a 93 shaft. I got lucky and found a 4" aftermarket one for $200.

I'm getting it done practically for free including the gears. That's why I'm asking. I don't want to pass the deal up while I can get it. I was just curious if anyone has used a 94-98 shaft with any success or if it is mandatory to change it. In other words is it ok for the short term, and also for a one time trip from fla to ny and back?

I absolutely plan on changing the driveshaft eventually, but I was curious if it would be tolerable or safe until then?

Get a one piece and get it balanced, the two piece will feel like your driving on mud tires. they are fairly cheap to, got mine for $35 and they pulled it, another $20 to get it balanced

anyone want a 3.5" dynotech driveshaft, bought it for my 4.10's and it vibrates pretty good at about 75 and up. really wish I bought a 4" but I took advice from Dennis Reighnhart.

Its still in my car for now but it cost me $480, I don't know what that would be worth used it only has like 5k miles on it.

I went ahead and got a denny's 4" for about 600.00 when I put the 3:73's in. No issues at all here:D If you plan on going triple digit speeds, get a one piece aftermarket, if not try to get a 93 1 piece.

I plan on doing minimal drag racing and besides that nothing over 80-85mph....

My concern was pretty much with the short term. If I got the gears done would it be safe to drive for a month, two months tops till I get the proper driveshaft on? I've got an awesome deal so I don't want to pass it up if the car will be fine for a month or two with the stock 97 shaft.

It will be all a big crap shoot if it would work as several factors come into play with regards to the current condition of the two piece shaft. Rather than seeing the possibility of the Transmission tail shaft split in half, I would think you would want peace of mind and get it done right, especially if you are going to be on the highway, and also a long way from home.

There's a 93 in the junkyard by my house. I'm going to try and get there today if I can get out of work early. It also has a Strutmaster coil kit that looks almost new. I'm taking the kit for my 94. If the gas tank doesn't have to come out, I'll take the driveshaft for you. I think its $20. Do you have a way to pick it up??

My 93 has 4:10 gears and is supercharged, with stock shaft, and no vibration. I am parting out a 97 mark that had 3:73 gears and a 93 shaft put in it and the previous owner said it worked great. I'm in North Carolina. I was asking 40.00 for the driveshaft. It's listed on craigs list under auto parts, parting 1997 Lincoln, Fayetteville N.C.

Gas Tank has to come out.

Is it a big deal to remove the tank?

Since you don't have to worry about putting it back up, no. How much would they charge for a fuel pump basket without the pump? It would only be a few extra bolts.

I have a CE that was given to me. My buddy took the trans:confused: and removed the tank. When I go back, I will take out what you need and send it to you. Just pay the shipping. Where is Nova??
