Using search and reading thru all the post I can’t seem to find an answer to my dilemma. I think it may be a clock spring but, just not sure Ok, here’s the situation.. you be the judge. Thanks in advance! So, my cruise control seems to come on if I play with the on/off switch, the light comes on in the dash and only the set button works to engage it. I can only turn off/stop the cruise by tapping the brake. I must do the exact same thing to use the cruise again. None of the other cruise control buttons work. Next, I sometimes get these messages via the diagnostics when the car first starts up. Left rear tail light out.. Right rear tail light out. The lights are all physically fine. Also, some times the alarm will sound off after I use the fob to get inside and try to start the car. I have to lock / unlock the car a couple of times via the fob before it will start without the alarm going off?? All of these “bugs” are intermitting. Clock spring?? Suggestions? Thoughts? Thanks again!

I'm gonna put my money on clockspring but I had some weird experiences with the alarm and problems with starting the car when the one wire under the seat was cut (also a common problem).
 
And yes......all Lincoln LS's come with demons, gremilins,etc..

I would get a young priest and an old priest.
 
You probably have multiple, unrelated problems. The cruse issue is probably the clockspring, but if you have a gen I, then it could also be the cruise module. The light bulb alarms and the car alarms could be the REM or wiring to it. Has your car ever been under water? Do you have the correct battery? Is it less than five years old and in good shape? Do you have a high powered add on sound system?

I agree with everything said there..

I was going to say battery too because of the alarm and whatnot. The alarm goes off when you try to start with with low battery juice.

i could see the clockspring being a problem with the cruse control only, all the other problems are due to something else.

do 1st gens have a common issue with cruse control modules?
or is that just because it is a part in the system that could possibly fail and the 2nd gens dont have that part due to the ETC?

I have a 2002 ls V8 Is that a Gen I? So, could be both clock spring and cruise module. The last couple of days the cruise has been working but, only the on/off and set buttons.

REM?? Sorry what is that?? Also, if I happen to park with the wheels turned and NOT straight it will not start and the alarm wlill sound. ALSO, if the front end is pointed down and NOT level the alarm willl sound? I'm thinking still clock spring?? Thoughts??

Nope never under/in water.

Do you have the correct battery?
Yes, the battery is less than three years old. It was low the other week and I charged it and did a load test on the batery and charging system both checked out.

Is it less than five years old and in good shape? Yes.

Do you have a high powered add on sound system? No stock system

No, stock alarm system. So, a low battery could possibly be the problem? It was low about a week ago and I charged it. It is about three years old. Hmm, may need to look into that a little further. Did a load test and checked the charging system. The weird thing is that if I park with the front end pointing down and NOT level the alarm will go off. If it's level or the front end is up then NO probem?? Very weird!! Thanks for the inputs.

UPDATE: The battery died again so I did a complete test. Alternator is charging fine under load etc.., so I did a load test on the battery and also a hydrometer test. Found one dead cell with the hydrometer! Ordered a new battery, 750 CCA vs 650 CCA (OEM) should be here in the am. Stay tuned! Next I'll tackle the cruise control issue.

REM = Rear Electronics Module. It's in the trunk, on the right side.
 
UPDATE: Ok installed the new battery last night and all is good! No alarm issues, and so far no false messages on the diagnostic screen. Thanks again for all the suggestions! Next I'll be tackling the cruise control issue.
 
UPDATE: Rather than have multiple threads on different topics I decided to compile everything to try to make it easier for all... Here's the latest! I've replaced/repaired the following "things" that have recently happened in the last couple of weeks.

- Failed battery replaced - No longer have alarm sounding off and car failing to start!
- Changed clock spring - No longer getting weird readings on diagnostic screen (tail light out, etc..) and cruise control not working!
- Was advised that since my LS is a Gen I a 50/50 chance that the cruise control switch module could also be bad so changed cruise control switch module - Cruise control and all switches are working fine!
- About three week ago with only 3,200 miles since all new plugs & cops the CEL came on and no 4 cylinder was the culprit. Car ran fine but changed both plug & cop just to be sure. Two weeks ago did a 800 mile trip to the mountains and the car ran great. Last Monday night on the way home from work the CEL came on again! Went to Advance Auto and the code said misfire in no 4 cylinder, again!. So, this weekend I changed COP and plug in no 4, made sure spring was makng contact and applied dielectirc grease like before. Also, checked and cleaned all contacts to fuel injectors and applied dielectric grease to contacts. Have driven about 50 miles and so far so good! I have my fingers crossed! Thanks again to everyone for your great suggestions and advise! I'll keep you all posted! :)
