So my timing chain popped and I now have a blown motor on my 2000 LS (3.9 V8).
Its been a month of searching in Ohio for a used motor with less than 60K. With no luck I have been looking for a different LS. Silver with black interior. Under 60K. Of course still no luck.
Does anyone have any suggestions ? Where I might be able to acquire a motor and is this worth it ? I LOVE my car and would rather rebuild than buy something else any day ! Thanks in advance.

I hate rain sensing wipers. They never work to my satisfaction. Either they don't turn on in the light drizzle, and I have to turn them on myself, or they will go full boar. I only use wipers when driving under 40mph though. I keep all my glass cleaned, clayed, and sealed. Better than rain-x.

You do realize that "sealed" interferes with the operation of the rain sensor?

sure does, so does rain-x.

I love my auto wipers, i dont think that i have ever used the wiper switch, except when i take my car through the wash(the guy that sprays the car off always gets mad when he blast the windshield and the wipers kick on and push it all back in his face)

i have never had a problem with them not working at the right speed, except for a few times where just a bit of mist got on and they didn't turn on, then i just tap the spray button real quick and the wipers flash once and fix it

i also always tape off the sensor area when i rain-x the windshield (i didn't do the the first couple of times with the 1st gen and the wipers didnt know what to do)

Nope. Didn't know that, actually. Never even thought about it. But I like the sealed glass better anyways. Way more visibility for me when the water beads up instead of forming a solid sheet.

1LoudLS - I'll keep that in mind about taping off the sensor area of the glass next time.

Here the Cliff's Notes on rain sensing.

The sensor is an IR LED and an IR sensor.

The IR LED is modulated to a particular frequency and the sensor output is filtered to only include that frequency. This reduces/eliminates the effect of IR from sunlight.

The IR LED points at the windshield at an angle. The receiver is pointed to receive the IR that bounces off of the windshield from the LED.

When a rain drop lands on the windshield in front of the sensor, it changes the optical characteristics of the glass such that the IR now passes through the windshield instead of bouncing back to the sensor.

If you have RainX or a sealer on the windshield, the rain drop slides out of the sensor area before it can detect it. It also changes how much IR bounces back when there is no rain.

leave it to Pete to completely hijack a new guys thread, oh well

keep looking, there had to be a motor somewhere for you, check every junk yard around that you can find, no to mention it always seems like there is somebody parting out a car from time to time, CL, Ebay...

Thanks for the explanation, joe. :D

oops. lol.

the world is bright again !

Wow ! Thank you all for your support! So I found a 06 LSE with

you all for caring. That's why I love LVC. So I found a 06 LSE with 53K on the web yesterday. Took

The sun shines again in my little world ! Sorry about that last half as* post. By the way I put that 06 LSE in my driveway this weekend !! I couldn't say no, and now I'm loving it ! Thank you all for the wonderful insight on wiper sensors , I never knew that !
Yes , I will be parting out my 2000 LS ! Its bright white outside , beige inside. 153K miles. Its got a little rust on the bottom of the driver door. If you would like something from it or have questions you can email me at MulchGirl@yahoo.com.
