Stereo Head unit

Anyone ever try putting a 2004 head unit in a 2001 Lincoln LS? Will the electronics work? I want to upgrade my electronics while still keeping somewhat of a "could be stock" look. And I want to keep it in the alpine family. I am currently looking at a Alpine Digital Media Station - IXA-W404, but if I can get a newer LS head unit instead, it would be prefered.

You could change out the connectors and get it to mostly work. The speed sensitive volume and the delayed turn off features would be lost.

May not work as the '03+ computer system uses a different "language". Then again, I don't know how much of the radio is controlled by one of the modules.

The features controlled by the communications bus are the speed sensitive volume and the delayed turn off. That's why I said those features would be lost.

There's a way to get back the delayed turn off feature. You'd have to tap into the RAP (retained accessory power) wire for the power windows. However, to me the more important of the two features is the speed sensitive volume. I never have to fiddle with the volume control. I get annoyed when I get in another car and have to turn up the radio at speed, and turn it back down when I slow down.

When I was installing an amp in the 2000, I found the radio controlled the delay. I had to tap into a speaker wire to keep the amp powered. Now, I am unaware what triggers the timer in the radio. Is that what you mean by

Yes, the radio itself controls the delayed turn off using information from the communications bus. However, the power windows also do the same thing. They get a delayed turn-off power feed separately from the radio. (If I recall correctly, it comes from the FEM.) Anyway, you can tap into that wire to get the delayed turnoff feature back. The wire runs to the front doors and the moon roof. I've posted about it before. It's good to use for aftermarket radios and accessories.

I listen to my sh!t pretty loud all the time regardless of speed so it dosen't bother me

then you will also have to either paint the rest of your center stack silver or pain the radio black
