Aftermarket Exhaust vs. Muffler Delete

Ok, so I finally find the tips that I want for my exhaust, but I am still up in the air as to whether I should go with aftermarket mufflers, or with a muffler delete.

I know there are a lot of people in here that have done aftermarket exhaust, but has anyone done just a muffler delete? And if they have done the muffler delete, is there any noticable change in the exhaust note. I am not looking for anything really loud, but a V8 should have some throat to it.

Any choices that you guys have made, let me know how they worked out.
 
I cut the mufflers off and replaced with strait pipe.. Cost a whole 50 bucks.. Sounds loud when under hard throttle. Personally, I didn't like the drone going down the highway so I redid my whole exhaust.. For how cheap it was though, it sounded pretty good.. Depends how much you want to spend..

It sounds better with stock resonators and muffle delete than resonator delete with stock muffler. you could also stick some magnaflow resonators or slps. Missing Linc had the slp resonators and x pipe, sounds good
 
What about on a V6?

I have a V6, so are you saying it would sound better deleting the mufflers instead of deleting the resonators?
 
I think that I might just go with the muffler delete and leave the stock resonators on, and with the extra sound deadening that I have put in, any drone shouldn't really be a problem at higher speeds.
 
I am running 18" magnaflow mufflers with the stock resonators and I get a real nice European sound from my V6.

I just got my 5" x 8" x 20" Magnaflows put on. They are part # 12225. A few other members have the same as well. That's the satin finish if you want a polished look its #14225.

btw, they are shweeet sounding
 
If I could do it all over again I would of done straight pipe and Corsa dB mufflers. I have yet to see ANYONE install them and they're only 300 bucks...plus they are offering to install Corvette tips as a bonus
 
Not to thread jack, but I guess I will...I see everybody and their mother has magnaflow and I've read some posts about how flowmaster sucks so that's out. I also know a couple guys used bassani and SLP, but I was wondering if anyone ever used/heard a hooker aerochamber? They're fairly cheap, and I know they are usually run on bigger displacement engines and chevy small blocks and such, but I had one on my camaro and it was really mellow and not loud at all compared to SLP, flowmaster, magnaflow, etc. Obviously it would be different on an LS, but the question is how much different and would it still keep that mellow, deep sound......
 
Hard to tell without actually hearing one on an LS. Magnaflows are not that loud and if they are loud compared to your aerochambers then you could aslo try borla, those are good and not as loud as magnaflows
 
hey bullschmidt, the part number for the Magnaflows is an offset in and center out...did you turn them so they're flat or keep them the same way the stock mufflers sit?

Edit - NM I figured it out.
 
something to take in mind unlike what Alax7 first said is that his Gen II has 2.25" piping stock whereas our Gen I have only 2.00" piping...so it is best to replace the pipes right after the cats. I for one have stainless steel straight pipes from the back of the cats to my magnaflow mufflers and then magnaflow tips. sounds very nice and even in hard or uphill acceleration, it's so loud ppl behind me start driving slower to allow a bigger gap :P

plus upping from 2.00" piping to 2.25" piping will grant you more power.

to each his own

and reason why many ppl here got the magnaflows is because magnaflow and borla are the only ones that make an exhaust kit for these rigs and the borla is far too quiet. I would went for the Corsa's if I could do it all over

Pete, I don't know about other cars, but my '02 V-8 had 2.25" pipes from the factory. The Magnaflow package I installed had a much better-flowing look to it, and each section was line-of-sight open from end to end, but there was no size change.

I did both the exhaust and an intake-pipe and filter from LSK at about the same time. It made the sound just right, but I'm not sure it made a lot of HP difference. Maybe that's because I also went to a NX Pro 300 system including the methanol-as-fuel aspect at much the same time as well.

hmm....I might be off on that then. I do know that the magnaflow had an increase in airflow and thought it added .25" onto the factory piping.....
