does anyone have any thoughts about an off-road exhaust system? or would it just be better to delete the cats and but some magnaflows or another brand on instead?

No inpections here. I'm going to cut the cats off, and replace with a piece of straight pipe. Just have to find someone who will do it.

i dont have inspections where i live either because i technically live in an unincorporated part of town, but every one around me has to and i'm leaning more on the side of cutting the cats off and putting performance mufflers on

I got the cats off of eBay for like 90 shipped for both.. You can see strait through them so they aren't restrictive.. Idk if I would cut the cats off because idk what your looking at trying to gain from doing so..

Pektel:
Good luck on getting someone to do it. Any certified shop won't do it.. Against the law.. I know you can get away with a 45 going into the rest of the system but were the flange is has to be all custom..

Cut them off yourself. Just have them make widen the pipes with their machine to fit to other side and just weld it yourself, or have someone else weld it for youm or just use clamps.

My brother in law can weld, but that's a pretty tight space to get into.

fastlls: I know. That's why I have to find someone who will do it. I wasn't really talking about an exhaust shop. Just someone who will weld it for me.

I would think that you would have to take them down.. It is so tight up there.. You can't even get your hand up there.. When putting them back up, I had to use like 2 feet of extensions and a universal to get to the bolt..

I kinda figured that you weren't thinking of exhaust shop..

IMO, I would get the cheap cats off of eBay because they flow great and no cel.. They were a piece of cake to weld in too.. Your going to need about 2 feet per side =ing 4 feet and 4 feet of stainless at 15 a foot is pretty expensive.. Minds well put in the cats for 30 more.. But that's just my .02

If you do it, I would take them down.. Much easier to work with..

EDIT:
Here's what I bought..

I have heard the magnaflow exhaust on the ls and to be honest I would look for headers and find a way to take care of the 2900 rpm stall on the engine. then do the catback system. My brother in law has a lexus gs300 he has the borla system with headers and that is the sound that I want. It has such a nice growl to it, not very loud but subtle enough.

lol. There is a way to take care of the 2900 stall. I'm going to be getting a 3400 shortly. Along with some 4.56's.

Only headers for the LS are like 800..

Take care of the 2900 stall? You mean put one that high?

Oh, and headers are a waste of money for this car. They only make them for gen2, and they are close to a grand.

I think he means get a higher stall converter.

That's what I think he meant..

I guess they were for the gen2s.. I couldn't remember.. But now you say that I remember now.. I think someone said they only gain like 10-20 hp.. For almost a grand.. Not worth it..

I bet it's not even that much gain, tbh. From what I remember, the heads on the LS flow very well already. Not much room for improvement.

It would be nice eye candy to pop the hood and see a set of Stainless LT's though...

True True.. But the LS isn't an old chevy were the engine was so small and the engine compartment was soooo big.. You would really have to be looking for them to see them.. But it would still be nice to say," hey.. You didn't even notice the headers"..

Stock stall is 2200rpms, I dont know how many times I have to go over this with you people.

My converter is at 3000rpms because I have an aftermarket converter. Im the only one to date. Pete should be the next.

Nobody has any info on the Stainless Works LT headers as far as gains. Quik tried a set of shorties on his Gen1 and noticed a gain of like 5-8hp or something, long tubes are completely different as they gain power from better flow and they shift the usable rpm range further up.

And your not going to see the headers looking at the top of the engine with an open hood, maybe a small glimpse of one of the primaries, but nothing as far as "oohs and ahhs"

i have a shop that will cut the cats off  lol, and the magnaflows were just an example, i do like the borlas though

already got my TC in, just gotta bank enough funds for the install as well as a SCT and dyno tune :P

the tuning device can get rid of the cel. And i think repete is just talking :q:q:q:q. I.m thinking he has not purchased a higher stall tc. in fact, i'd like to take this moment to ask for pics to prove that he has one.

No, he's talking about the rev limit. By getting rid of the rev limit you can rev the engine higher when showing off the sound of your exhaust. What a n00b. Welcome to the forum dlo73!
